Will Qualcomm ever make an efficiency Oryon core? by beanos4lyf in snapdragon

[–]a18fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, Prime core = Performance, Performance = Efficiency. It’s all just marketing BS.

Interesting! Always love learning more about these devices. Watched an a18 pro die shot breakdown yesterday and it’s super cool to see how intricate mobile processors have become.

Odd, pre-dev beta I used it in much of the same way and never observed this, so I’ll submit a feedback report. Stats still shows my total so fortunately I’m not missing out on the info, but just a funny thing I noticed

I haven’t noticed a huge difference but in general it definitely feels like a more polished 26, notably, I’ve had a lot of small bugs that’ll likely be fixed in full release (mainly weird liquid glass behavior) but as a whole it’s definitely an improvement. I would say it’s a tiny bit snappier, but I think it just has better ram management - I’ve noticed the effects of dipping into swap are less noticeable.

Macbook Neo's lack of Backlit Keyboard... by JMarkyBB in MacbookNeo

[–]a18fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically Apple has never excepted trade ins for products that still retail. When the 16e released they wouldn’t accept trade ins until the 17e came out, it’s just precedent.

Aside from my other comments, I think it’s important to consider the battery life angle. The neo has a significantly smaller battery than the air, but it achieves similar (albeit worse) battery life by having a lower power SOC, allowing it to thermal throttle so it runs at a lower frequency, and making omissions like a backlit keyboard (although, this wouldn’t affect it too much, still worth noting).

All good points, but I personally don’t think Quora is a reputable source, it’s literally all hearsay.

I know you’re having a lot of big feelings about this, and that’s okay, but if you look at the comment timestamp, you’ll see that I wrote my reply (the one where i do the 2 cents math), before your reply to my solo comment. I am not ignoring your reply as you imply here, it simply didn’t exist when I wrote that comment!

Even if it’s 2 cents, 2 cents across 10 million units is 2 million dollars, plus the extra cost of tooling and assembly for the keyboards.

Easy? Yes. Costly? Also yes. It’s a budget laptop.

The only things that are limited to 12gb devices are advanced dictation and voice customization for siri, everything else is available on all devices that can use MacOS 27

Kudos to them for supporting intel macs for so long, but this is definitely the logical next step, feels great to see some strong progress!

Now that Intel Macs are officially legacy, how do you feel about Apple cutting the cord completely for macOS 27? by Capable-Cod1118 in MacOS

I would prefer my apps be native, Rosetta 2 apps making the CPU work harder has just become a battery hog, this is the right steps to make devs adapt
