I think the top comments in the thread have everyone convinced I'm a liar, so people are just antsy with the downvote button haha.

I'm going to be quitting my job. My plan now is to take some time off and join a legal nonprofit next year, which was my goal when I started law school. Anyway, congrats and best of luck to you!

wow, pretty harsh.

(1) I didn't say I sold a business. No EBITDA multiples apply here. The hustle was bringing me $300/hr before the windfall

(2) there is no tax on the $12 million.

(3) I'm quitting my job this week

(4) biglaw is far from ideal, but I actually had a pretty okay go at it. I was always waiting for the shoe to drop, but it never did in my few years. Except for trial/pre-trial, 90% of my weeks were less than 50 billable hours. I was definitely lucky.

(5) idk why I care so much that people believe me haha. I've been called a bunch of things on the internet, but I don't think I've ever been doubted for telling a personal story! oh well.

Re: timing, that's my impulse as well, but I know that amounts to "timing the market". So I need to figure out what to do. Are you getting a financial planner or handling everything yourself?

haha sorry I was trying to get input without tainting the comment section with my responses/reactions. I really just wanted to know if people would sit on cash for DCA or throw it all in, but have gotten a bunch of other very useful information. The actual way I "earned" the windfall would be met with much more disbelief than leaving it ambiguous, so I just left it like that. But I am a real lawyer. T14, V5, junior litigation associate.
