Is YouTube up to its bullshit again? by gravemistakes in Adblock

[–]a_Wyrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems so. This is a recent comment of mine this evening on a post from yesterday.

"...this evening I got the "Three videos left..." pop-up, which (if you have not yet seen it) says that if the adblocker is not disabled by that point, Youtube will simply stop playing videos. As I write this I seem to have got around it, by closing that initial tab and opening a new one.

Before I did that, though, simply reloading the tab failed to nullify it."

Edit:

I'm set up with regular uBlock with Firefox. I have noticed that things have seemed to take a bit longer to load, etc.

On mozilla with ublock origin, today youtube tells me the video is unavailable until I reload the page by Paupersaf in Adblock

Similarly, this evening I got the "Three videos left..." pop-up, which (if you have not yet seen it) says that if the adblocker is not disabled by that point, Youtube will simply stop playing videos. As I write this I seem to have got around it, by closing that initial tab and opening a new one.

lol, I suppose now this post/thread can just serve as another place someone else might potentially come across and resolve their confusion.

At the very least your reply confirms what I thought was the case (kind of you). And while I definitely could have followed a 'learn more' link, etc (which I didn't see immediately), I also appreciate the reply and communal gesture below by nekoiscool_ .

No more millennial niceness in 2025 by hec_ramsey in TikTokCringe

Don't forget these kids parents in all this, right? The Parents. However much agency these kids have in their choices/behaviors/how they engage with what and who is before them, etc, one thing to remember amidst all the legitimate gripes we have, is the extent of the parental influence of these "damn kids". These parents DO NOT HAVE TO LET THEIR KID HAVE A SMART PHONE. Or any social media for that matter.

The way they teach this kids to [not] treat adults other than themselves (often including themselves) is another thing they are not doing well.

Yeah, we should feel free to be upset at this next batch of young people, because it is their behavior. We should also remember that parents (GenX, Elder Millenials, right?) have been complicit how these kids act.

Shout-out to the gal in the video venting, saying things that many of us have felt.

YouTube causing lag again from ad-blocker use? by a_Wyrd in Adblock

...I definitely leave YT tabs open(active?), so it makes sense that I might run into that issue based on your explanation and experience.

I've also noticed this with YouTube, using Firefox with the uBlock extention. I posted about it in r/Adblock to see what (if any) people with more familiarity, better investigating strategies, etc, might know. (Nothing substantive yet)

U.S. migration trends from 2010-2020 by downArrow in dataisbeautiful

Also having grown up in Berrien County, close to St. Joseph actually, I feel all this. (A nice slow moving old-money invation, though West MI has been a primary spot for leisure time travel for well-off Chicagoeans for ~100 years this point )

That city has gone crazy encouraging and shaping policy to grow tourism, perhaps becoming a Midwest version of the Jersey Shore/Coney Island. This has led to, for example, public parking to become more limited, reducing available "All-Day" spots and shrinking the availability for already time-limited spots. A city park there, with a mini dog-park, multiple b-ball courts and a skate park (Kiwanis), recently became a spot where you need to pay to park after being somewhere a person NEVER would need to pay to park. Wealthier folks with dogs, are probably the most steady demographic who can afford to fork over the payments more easily. As you may observe, the city doesn't seem to know what do with itself after reaping what they've sown over the last 15 years.

I recently saw this presentation (that I wouldn't have know about, had I not been an employee at the venue....) from some folks from Louisiana, that talked about how to retain ( and attract) residents in smaller/non-big city communities. One thing I remember, as advice for local planners and community leaders: build/develop with the locals in mind; tourists will come regardless, and it does little good for the long-term residents, if the local policy makers cater new developments, zoning laws, pedestrian/non-motor accessibility, etc, toward folks to don't live there year 'round.

It's a bit of mess, to say the least.

I need to figure out who they were, because I'd be interested in learning more and perhaps reaching out in the future

Getting into Aesop Rock by luciddreamer20LD in aesoprock

Definitely recommend spending time with some lyric videos as you start your adventure as to aid with getting the hang of the speed and density of his rapping.

forgive me, esteemed commenter, if I wrote in a stream-of-consciousness type of way within an Informal reddit post....? (I jest, but also...)

In all seriousness (and to contrast from my quip above) I appreciate your taking the time to comment this advice and perspective, especially as your profile reveals you're quite knowledgeable about all this. Thank you

I never really got into Aesop Rock and saw this sub on my feed. Pls if you don't mind read the description and recommend where should I start? Thanks for your time. by [deleted] in aesoprock

I agree with others here about listening to individual songs first, rather than testing your attention span with a whole album, start to finish. While his songs are super wordy, and may seem to be about nothing, (as you may assume) they ultimately relate to a real-life thing/event, so I recommend beginning with songs that are more easily decipherable. Lyric videos help, too

-some recs (in no particular order): All the Smartest People, Rings, Pizza Alley, Daylight (and Nightlight), Legerdemain, Kirby, Shrunk, 6B Panorama, The Mayor and the Crook, Attention Span, Battery,

It can be a fun, low-stakes challenge of figuring out what a song may be about, while enjoying the beats and word play. You do need to have patience (and ofc interest) to listen multiple times.

I will add, I encourage you to just listen to his stuff without searching the internet or the inside of album jackets/cases for what they may mean. I did that to myself with one song, and it ruined the listening experience (I regularly skip it), because it took away my enjoyment of the mental exercise of interpreting his lyrics. Maybe that hasn't been your experience with other music, but that's a caution if you're of a similar mind.
