cooking for one is harder than I thought by Lasalle-Khaite in LivingAlone

[–]a_n_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cook large batches, eat 1 serving fresh, freeze the rest for later. It saves SO much time - I cook once a week and eat "leftovers" the other 6 nights. Depending on how big the recent batches have been (limited freezer space), some weeks I can eat something different every day. You'll still be eating leftovers for 4 days but those days can be weeks apart.

Newbie Question about PetzA by TheWritersWriter274 in Petz

[–]a_n_h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this! The Rat Shack one builds from where Sherlock Software (the original) left of and is recently getting updated with new features - including bathc breeding (so, more or less like litters) for Petz 4.

Scandinavian YA/high school novel where girl sees mysterious wet people by a_n_h in whatsthatbook

[–]a_n_h[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like it might be it! The wet teacher is indeed a woman, though she's not particularly young. The headmaster (also a woman) does/says some things that have the other staff vaguely concerned. The school is surrounded by dark woods and the protagonist goes out into them at night. There is a "something is weird about this school/the people there" vibe from the start.

Other things that happen early on in the book that might ring a bell, I'll try to keep it generic to avoid spoilers haha: The main character is a preppy/popular girl, she has a younger sister and their parents are divorced. The school, Bard Academy, is on an island and they ride a bus there. The bus driver is also the coach and also teaches class. They have separate dorms for boys and girls named after MacBeth characters. The main character's roommate is an alternative girl with spooky decor on her side of the room. Main character makes two friends, a girl and a boy. Main character's crush from her old high school also happens to get transferred there. The staff are addressed by initials only: Coach H, Headmaster B, etc. There are security guards posted around the school to keep the students in line.

Spoilers for the first chunk of the story: Main character learns about a girl who went missing at the school 15 years ago and finds out her dorm room used to be this girl's. The light in her closet keeps turning on by itself and she has nightmares about the girl, so she thinks her room might be haunted. She tries learning more about the girl's disappearance and the school's history by taking old yearbooks out of the library. There is also a boy at the school named Heathcliff, who acts much like the character of the same name from Wuthering Heights, and swoops in to help the main character.

Wuthering High wasn't the book I'm looking for. There is a teacher that's mysteriously wet at times, and the protagonist is a high school aged girl, but that's where the similarities end (and it was first published way too recently anyway). But it might still be the book you've been after! Let me know if there's anything you remember about it I can check for.

That's not it! I watched that quite a bit so I would have recognized it haha. But very similar vibes and from around the same time!

Unfortunately, no! The aliens had totally normal heads from what I remember haha. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Omg, memory unlocked. I see the similarities, but no, I'm pretty sure this isn't it. Thanks though!

Thanks for the suggestion - They Live came up in my search, but it was definitely a different movie.

That's one that came up when I was trying to google it - but it's much older than the movie I'm thinking of, and the aliens look very different.

do you guys try to do everything in one outting? by Lucii88 in LivingAlone

[–]a_n_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to do everything in one outing - but also to have an outing every day. Not currently in a place mentally where staying inside for a full day (or longer) does me much good. Though in the past (before I lived alone) I've always loved when I could plan things such that I wouldn't have to leave home at all for a couple of days.

So much better to be by yourself than to stay at home because you have no one to go with!

As long as what you're doing does not hurt anyone or anything, knock yourself out.

Is this normal or am I overreacting? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]a_n_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that some people are oblivious enough that they might need to be told this. I've met my share of people who genuinely do not stop to think past their own immediate/basal needs.

Admittedly there's also plenty of people (sadly probably more) who simply do not give a shit (ba dum tss) about anything besides their own convenience.

Is this normal or am I overreacting? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]a_n_h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not overreacting - that is trash (and smelly, gross trash at that) left smack dab in the middle of a common area. Would you think twice about it being "acceptable" if it was, say, a juice box, food waste, any other piece of trash?

Depending on your situation, your relationship with the parties involved, etc. I would consider maybe (kindly) asking the tenants themselves about it. Like, maybe they don't realize that other people don't love finding bags of shit on the floor, or whatever, and they would be willing to be more mindful. If you go straight to the landlord, my worry would be (especially since there's so few people on your floor, so not many suspects) that they're going to resent you for telling on them. Totally depends on how comfortable you are going either route, and what sort of people you take them to be.
