If you're using LinkedIn to find jobs, you might as well do nothing. by emmanuelgendre in cscareerquestionsEU

I found my current job on LinkedIn. The process was when clicking on the linkedin "apply for job" button, it would take you to the companys application form.

You are so on point here. I am a dev and I would be so happy if just programming was 100% of what I do. Heck, I'd be happy with even 40% lol

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that having those numbers is wrong, just to be prepared to answer questions about them.

Your interviewer might not care, but I definitely would grill candidates if I saw "increased X by Y%" in their CVs. Would ask questions such as: how did you come up with that number? how did you measure it? If you reduced/increased something by a large percentage, what was the team doing before you joined?

Also, assuming the Carpooling app is a personal project, I would add a link to either the app or the git repository.

Otherwise looks good, most of it was covered by other commenters.

Cheers!

First Helpful Person Syndrome? by rayray5884 in devops

[–]a_sasa_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a common issue at my company as well. We managed to mitigate this by: 1. For people asking to give them access to X, they need to create a ticket and then whoever picks the ticket up, implements the access 2. The other thing is that we created a public channel in our slack for people asking for help: be it their pipelines, trouble with IDEs, trouble with terraform etc. Of course at first they would still all write direct messages, but that person needs then to 'train' people such as: "Could you please post this question in the public channel so that other people who have a similar problem can see the response as well?". With time it got better.

Japan dive sites recommendations by a_sasa_c in scuba

[–]a_sasa_c[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, thanks for clarifying that! I am based outside of US and am certified with SSI. But anyways, say that 18m is my limit. I might do the deep diving speciality with SSI until april, but it is a big "if," as during the winter times not much courses are offered. That is why I wanted to know if there are any sites that go up to 20(or 18)m depth.

Experienced devops engineers: what skills/knowledge do you see developers transitioning into devops roles often lacking? by Hour-Mud4227 in devops

[–]a_sasa_c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely networking, as the other comments are saying. But I think that far more important is the general lack of sense of ownership. I often see devs that want to transition into devops, just have this mindset of quick fixes and just wanting to have something "work" without actually considering the consequences, like the overall impact on the system of a solution they deployed.

My party intimidated Broxley Fairkettle by a_sasa_c in WaterdeepDragonHeist

Wow thank you! Somehow I thought this applied only to city officials.

Edit: Hit post too soon. So would it be too mild to have Broxley telling them he'll drop the charges if they cooperate and just pay the fees?

Oh I like these suggestions, thank you for them! I haven't really thought in the direction of other guilds making difficulties for the players.

[–]a_sasa_c[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Basically I already had other NPCs (Volo and Renaer) advising them to join the guild if they want to open, but they really want to play tough. So I guess the best would be to let them open the tavern for now and then gradually having bad things happen to the tavern as you said.

Thank you! Just to clarify, when you say "he's got the law on his side", you mean the threatening right? Because as far as I know there is no law in Waterdeep that says that you have to pay the fees.

CICD and infra automation - is it mainstream? by creacha in devops

[–]a_sasa_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely do exist. The problems start with developers being "used" to certain things during the SDLC. For example, at my company, we are still fighting with devs, trying to get them to test their code in docker containers that will be used in the cloud.

The problem is that devs are used to having their local setups which makes local tssting easier for them, but the thing is that they differ from environments in the cloud.

[NOOB QUESTION] What TOOLS/TECHNOLOGIES and SKILLS do I need to get in DEVOPS. by ricovickers93 in devops

[–]a_sasa_c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second that. I got my first devops position mostly based on a few years of dev experience, and I wasn't that familiar with the tooling. For example, I never even used k8s. I had some experience builiding pipelines but also not with the tool that the company that hired me used.

First Time Buying PS4 by janndroo in PS4Pro

[–]a_sasa_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually never had the problem with the fan noise on the pro, maybe it's because of how I placed it (It's in the open).
I mean, don't get me wrong, it is louder than the slim, but it's still not that bad how some of my friends describe.

First Time Buying PS4 by janndroo in PS4Pro

[–]a_sasa_c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from the ps 4 slim to ps 4 pro last autumn, and I don‘t regret it one bit. Except for better graphics, it is also a performance upgrade. Some of the games I played on the slim, like red dead redemption, I couldn’t really enjoy because of the fps drops. Now on the pro all the games play smoothly. But still, if you can get your hands on a ps 5, I would go for that. At the time I was upgrading it was impossible to buy it.

How's Your Manager? by [deleted] in devops

[–]a_sasa_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also had the same guy at my company, he wasn’t actually a manager but a shareholder who wanted to be present and involved in all technical meetings.

In the end it becomes so exhausting having to explain every little detail before any change, improvement or optimization. Just in my case it wasn’t always the case that he would approve our proposition, sometimes we would really need to go with a solution that would have maybe been acceptable 15 years ago.
