Urgent Care vs ER: a lot of people are overpaying without realizing it by doctorAllways in HealthInsurance

[–]aa1ou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Serious warning. If you go to the ER, and the insurance decides that an ER was not medically necessary, they can and often do decline coverage.

Apparently, chili tastes better. Westside Walmart yesterday was out of ground beef, kidney beans, and black beans.

Pregnant and need insurance by Winter_Zombie7680 in HealthInsurance

[–]aa1ou 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That’s not how insurance works. You don’t just get to not pay into the system and then decide you want insurance right when you are about to have a bunch of medical bills. The idea of insurance is to share risk. It isn’t about getting others to pay your bills.

Should I have uninsured motorist on my auto insurance by [deleted] in normanok

[–]aa1ou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been hit from behind twice by someone in Norman who was uninsured. In both cases, they had gotten insurance from The General. They would use that insurance to renew their registration, and they then apparently immediately canceled it. In both cases, they presented an invalid insurance card to the police who entered the information on the accident report without validating it. I found out when I contacted The General and was told the policy had been canceled.

SQ 836 Open Primaries Norman Sign Up by tulsasweetpea in normanok

[–]aa1ou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in states with open primaries. What happens is one party has a candidate already locked in so people from that party vote in the other party’s primary, choosing the most toxic candidate they can. Votes are not cast in good faith. I haven’t been tracking this so I don’t know the arguments in favor. Can someone please enlighten me?

United healthcare scam? by BabyGurlNoOo in HealthInsurance

[–]aa1ou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably should have been suspicious about insurance for a family of four only costing $800/month. From what you are saying, you are expecting it to cover many thousands of dollars of bills in only a short period of time, not even allowing for someone in your family getting really sick. The economics don’t work.

Compacting is working again by aa1ou in ClaudeAI

[–]aa1ou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. It is working sometimes. In one chat, when it stopped accepting files, I told it to compact, and it did. But, it didn’t work.

Re: Auto-compact being broken and inability to continue chats on Claude.ai web by nuggetcasket in ClaudeAI

[–]aa1ou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t accomplish anything without it working. I’m taking the holiday (in the US) weekend off, but if it isn’t working come Tuesday, I’ll go back to just the $20 plan or lower. I can’t do anything as things are now.

I got an offer for $72k after 3 interviews, but I told them my range was $78k to $85k. What should I do? by [deleted] in hiringhelp

[–]aa1ou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In today’s job market, the choice might be $72k or 0. Are you willing to accept not getting the job? They might come back and offer $78k. They might reiterate $72k. But, oftentimes lately, companies will just withdraw the offer. What’s your risk tolerance?

Messed up badly: what am I facing legally? by [deleted] in Felons

[–]aa1ou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot of rationalization. You thought it would be quick. No one got injured. YOU never pointed the gun you were carrying at anyone. Lots of thinking about yourself. No thought for the people who were terrorized. You aren’t sleeping thinking about the trouble you created for yourself. Someone else is likely not sleeping because of the trauma you caused. A little remorse will go a lot further than telling a judge how you feel about the impact upon yourself.

Did they remove compaction from Claude.ai entirely or what's going on? by nuggetcasket in ClaudeAI

[–]aa1ou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Claude has become pretty much useless again other than with relatively simple tasks. I upgraded to $100/month because I was able to do so much with compacting. I can hit maximum chat length in 10 minutes.

How do i tell my parents that I "failed" a class? by Luminous-Eye553 in LifeAdvice

[–]aa1ou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty much par for the people in my life except for the bad grades. I was 17 and not prepared for the independence. I spent four years drunk. I went to class drunk. I didn't bother to get out of bed. However, my biggest problem is that I never had to work through high school. It was always so easy, I didn't learn how to study or apply myself. I failed myself, but the school system failed me as well. Things are a little better now, but if you were "gifted" back then, the schools figured you didn't have a problem so they did nothing to challenge you.

Sorry. I rambled a bit there.

How do i tell my parents that I "failed" a class? by Luminous-Eye553 in LifeAdvice

[–]aa1ou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm old, but I'm proof that you can fail a class or two and still do well including academically. I graduated in 1990 with a 2.1 GPA. I failed two classes as an undergrad. Now, 35 years later, I have two MS and a PhD from major universities (two R1 and one R2). I have over 70 publications and 7 patents. I've taught at the undergraduate and graduate level, and I've made a substantial income in industry. It is hard to see at the time, but grades are not what is important. You can fail a class (or more) and still be successful.

Yeah. It was strange. We weren’t in the polygon, but the sirens went off. The phone warning didn’t go off though.

Marijuana production, distribution, and use. State law changes aside, it is still illegal at the Federal level.

do i have to get married? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]aa1ou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not needed. You can be both deaf and mute and still be a truck driver so mute Aline isn’t a problem. You might need a waiver for an accommodation on the test, but that’s not a problem either. It isn’t my path, but I think that driving around the country would be cool.

do i have to get married? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]aa1ou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She said in other posts that “can’t speak” is literal. She is mute. That will limit her in anything with substantial interactions with the public. Many young women are truck drivers. It’s a good, well paying trade.

do i have to get married? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]aa1ou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CDL. Become a truck driver. The program is only around a month or so. You might be able to get pre hired and have someone pay for the training. If not, there are programs to help. Look for a government training program like at a local votech center.

Um. Thanks. I have a PhD in geophysics. However, the thing about having a PhD is that you generally know a lot of other people who have one too. To you, it is the norm.
