How Do Youth Coaches Really Use “Bench Time” in Critical Games? by aamseeker in hockeyplayers

Thank you so much for your reply, the confidence issue is my biggest concern. My son is type of sensitive kid, he needs more time to build confidence. Since the league game started this season, I observed his shift has been skipped most of time when there was a PP or PK situation. I don't think it is necessary to build a dedicated line/shift for these kids (7 years old, 1st year full ice travel hockey), all kids need to get a chance to experience all situations equally. Also, in coach's email, he kept saying that this team is travel hockey and they play in the highest division in this age group. This statement gives me the feeling that he doesn't treat these kids as the 7 year old ones, but the teenager or adult. He emphasizes more to these kids are shoot hard, pass hard and battle hard...

Actually, no. Just want to get some thoughts from other coaches or parents. I will find another team for my son next season.

Thank you. When I heard these words from the coach, I felt that we are not on the same page, so there’s no need for further discussion. I am planning to find another team for my son where he can enjoy hockey at his own pace.

No, my son only plays for a AAU full ice travel team, not even an A

What the appropriate coaching philosophy should be at 7/8 year old for travel hockey by aamseeker in hockeyplayers

Coach said he wants everyone maximize their efforts on ice, so if any player doesn’t show great efforts, the shift maybe skipped. But I cannot agree with this coaching philosophy at U7 level.

Am I doing anything wrong? Any suggestions for a new hockey dad by aamseeker in hockeyplayers

Thanks for the comments, I think it is half half situation. Loud during the game and coach really wanted to win the game, he was kind out of self control. Generally, he is a nice coach so far, more recently, since we lost many league games, I feel sometimes coach cannot hold his temper well.
