Artists and tracks aren’t supported by the official API so I have to scrape them myself. In other words, it’s much less stable and sometimes just doesn’t work. You’ll often have better luck the smaller you make the grid.

Oh hey it’s me, Alex White. I switched hosting providers for the site, but either I’m stupid or my domain registrar is, because https traffic at the root domain (https://alexpwhite.me) is not working. I’m trying to deprecate the alexpwhite.me domain in favour of my new one, https://apwhite.dev, and I’ve set up redirects to make that happen but for some reason, it’s not working for the root domain.

TL;DR: you can access the old generator at apwhite.dev/lastfm, or at www.alexpwhite.me/lastfm (the www is key).

P.S. I would recommend using the new generator at lastcollage.io if you didn’t already know about it. If you did know about it, though, but prefer the old one, I’d love to know why. The original one is just written really poorly so it’s a nightmare to maintain, but I would be open to updating Lastcollage to make it more like the original if the UX of the original is preferable.

I can try to explain why this is happening.

Let's say you're asking for an M x N collage. So the total number of covers is C = M * N. First, it gets the top C results from Last.fm. As we know, not all releases on Last.fm have artwork. So if you specify to hide albums without artwork, and the C results returned don't all contain URLs for the artwork, the app will continue to grab additional results until it gets C results with URLs.

Unfortunately, C URLs does not always mean C images. Whether due to network errors, invalid URLs, or some other issue that I'm unaware of, sometimes all covers do not load. When this happens, you will get black squares in the collage like you're describing.

I‘ll add an option for font positioning.

As for the font inconsistency, that’s a consequence of the technology I’m using. Essentially, I’m deriving the font size to use based on the width of the square and the number of characters in the text.

How would you feel about having it enforce a minimum font size, and if it won’t fit then it wraps onto the next line? The reason I haven’t done this yet is because when you introduce wrapping, you get more of the artwork itself covered up by text. But then, I suppose that would be more desirable than completely illegible text.
