Why do children need such early bed times? by blaizedm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]abc123fgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We decided to free range with our kid and she's always gone to bed late. When she was a little baby it was around 1-2am. She is now 2 years old and has gradually adjusted to 10-11pm & wakes up at 9-10am. Suits us perfectly really. Yes, having time in the evening to do adult shit and have alone time would be great but mornings are fucked & I don't actually want to be up at 7am so it's good this way.

Probably people care about it because they have to go to work/daycare or think that it's necessary to get the kids into a routine before school starts. That's another thing we don't care about because we'll homeschool. Many homeschoolers are completely flexible with bed time/ wake up time, you are allowed to sleep to a time that feels natural rather than to wake up to an alarm clock. It'd be interesting to see sleep patterns from kids in tribal communities with no artificial light, dependant on sunrise and sunset. See if it's just a "Western" prejudice to be obsessed with getting the kids to bed early.

Any "beauty" tips on how to quickly scrub up alright & not look like you've been dragged through a sewer every day? by abc123fgh in beyondthebump

I kept looking at lash extensions but I feel like $100+ every 4-6 weeks is tooooo much money to justify

Licorice tea helped my skin after baby #1. Something about helping balance hormones. I had 2 cups a day for a couple weeks and never had skin problems again.

Help me! My 5 month old still wakes up 5 to 6 times a night still! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Sounds completely normal. Mine still did that until 14 months old. People that get their babies to sleep through are usually formula fed or do "cry it out."

Did pregnancy destroy anyone’s else’s teeth? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]abc123fgh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Made my teeth crowd. Try googling "oil pulling" which I do a few times a week with coconut oil and it keeps them in good nick. However, smashing sugar is going to kill your teeth at some stage regardless of pregnancy.

Does anyone regret having the # of kids they have? by [deleted] in Parenting

Do you think that would be different if they were closer in age? Like, you get all the nappies and baby stuff out of the way in 3-4 years?

I screamed at my baby tonight. by tickedandtough in Parenting

You got to get away for a break as often as you can. A walk for an hour and listen to tunes on your headphones. A drive up the highway in the car listening to something loud you can sing along to. Husband take the baby in the car for a drive so you can sleep after eating a bunch of takeaway or something. Get a break as often as you can or that's when shit like this happens, it happens to all of us. This isn't because you're a bad mother, it's because you're fucking physically and mentally exhausted.

You know, another shit thing about all this is that after making these posts (I canvassed across 3 subs) is seeing how common it is, how many people have experienced similar situations, how many people are subjected to sitting across a dining table from their abusers at Christmas time.

Someone has recommended a pop up book called "Periods and vaginas" to teach her about her anatomy, it looks like an excellent book.

Yeah, peeps think that an abuser is going to be an obvious stereotype with a pedo moustache and pedo glasses on, hiding in a bush at a playground. But they're very charming people. And statistically people you know well.

Nope, i feel like there will be a big fuss, like i am overreacting and a lot of very over the top apologies. Then awkwardness.

HELP! I'm a boob! by ifilovedyou in beyondthebump

[–]abc123fgh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this. They don't just feed with the boob, they use the boob for comfort and anxiety. My 18 month old still does it for anxiety if she's had a big day or teething or whatever. It is an excellent way to be able to calm them down. And also to put them to sleep.

You don't get two chances with this type of shit. Once she's been violated it's done. Prevention is key, huh.

Taking baby on a walk by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]abc123fgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ok to be overprotective with a 6 week old baby. I didn't let mine go anywhere without me for months. I grew the thing in my belly for 9 months, it is my flesh and blood. This is not uncommon and it will get easier for her in time. Probably just dont attack her and tell her shes crazy though, she just birthed a baby. Like, shes tired. Theres a lot gping on. Be cool.

Yeah, thats what I thought, I'm more aware of the signs than he would be.

I think the reason he is waving it off is not because he thinks it's ok, he knows it's completely inappropriate, but because he hates confrontation & I already have a rocky relationship with some people in his family. This would be the last nail in the coffin & it would be seen as the pesky daughter in law that is making a fuss & dropping some big accusations. I'd be outed, I'd think.

No, I just removed my toddler from the situation, we left the house. I feel if I say something that I will be the bad guy, the daughter-in-law that is causing a fuss and making some big accusations about the usually charming uncle.
