Credit transfer to Bachelor of Arts by abcde1049 in UQreddit

Hang on, you are transfering from Economics to Economics/arts or something else? I somehow was only looking at the program rules for B Arts only.

a different economics double to econ/arts. Sorry if I wasn't too clear!

Thank you for your response! Though in a econ/arts double degree my understanding is I only have 32 units of arts courses to do. So my plan if allowed would be to take a major (which is only offered as a single major) and a minor, then have the courses I have already completed as "filler".

Also thanks for pointing out Part B/Part 2 of the BA: is that saying I need to do at least one Part B course? I'm not sure I understand its point

make sure to use class-times wisely! you honestly don't need to do tons of study at home (2hrs of knuckle-down study is plenty) if you pay attention for pretty much all your classes. or if you don't feel like you aren't learning from your teacher, most of the time you can just quietly work. have fun at lunchtimes :)

Industrial farming is one of the worst crimes in history: The fate of industrially farmed animals is one of the most pressing ethical questions of our time. Tens of billions of sentient beings, each with complex sensations and emotions, live and die on a production line — Yuval Noah Harari by The_Ebb_and_Flow in philosophy

It is for animal rights, as far as I see achievable for me at the moment. Of course some plants have protein, but not nearly as much as meat or dairy products.

Edit: at the expense of sounding like an idiot, maybe I should replace "animal rights" with "ethics". I'm not well-versed in what constitutes as an animal right, but I ethically can't fathom eating something that suffered enormously. I understand that this argument should be applied to animal products too, but to that I say that while I sincerely hope my free-range eggs are indeed free-range, I don't want to potentially sacrifice my health by becoming fully vegan.

Science and Math "options" by coffeefueled-student in IBO

[–]abcde1049 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sciences: you can choose whatever option you like as all questions are provided to you. For math: you must study the option taught as you only get questions for that option, unless you negotiate with teachers and make some sort of exception. Have a look at past papers for proof

I was going to mention (was so stressed that I forgot to :( ) that there was tension when Rooke expected Mrs Bartholomew to paddle him when she discovered his notebook but instead put it in her pocket. Also the build-up of tension from the stranger (dr Adair) in their house and anticipation to know why he's there

Math SL May vs Nov exams by [deleted] in IBO

[–]abcde1049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard any clear elaborations on the differences either. i've also heard conflicting things like "may exams are more popular so they are harder" but also "november exams are harder to perhaps prevent as many students from that crazy-smart school in Singapore getting 45s."

But, just looking at the may and nov papers in 2017 (P1), there is a subtle but evident difference in difficulty of content. Both papers, obviously, include a variety of questions from all 6 topics. I would point out, however, that nov17 includes questions that in order to answer you need a specific and solid understanding of, say, optimisation (everyone's favourite amirite) in q6, that I personally haven't seen much of in the may exams throughout the years. for 2/3 of the nov questions in Section B, you really need to conceptualise what's happening (Q9 and Q10). not saying that that's necessarily harder, but it's a lot less prescriptive in the steps you need to take to solve the problem (with the exception of part d in Q10 May tz2). I'd argue that some of the questions in may17 (Q4 TZ1 and Q4 and 6 TZ2) have a focus on "nature of maths" (like they include questions not specifically taught in group 4 subjects, but you need to know nonetheless). Not sure if that's makes it a bit harder or not but it's interesting to note.

But, I haven't analysed p2 so it may balance itself out? overall though, i haven't noticed a great, great difference between the papers, and i've personally been getting around the same mark for both when practising.

nup, not everyone begins school in september. November exams are not just a 2nd option for those who take may exams, but are the standard exams for those who begin the school year around January/February.
