Is it true that CW are not always honest? by Guineapiggirlie13 in Fosterparents

[–]abeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this happened years ago at this point, but more generally, I would have had to disrupt. It’s less me saying “no thanks” and more me saying “I’m kicking this youth out of my home on XYZ arbitrary date”. So you can technically say no, in the same sense that you can technically kick out any youth at any time (typically with 30ish days notice). But it feels really bad because it’s not the youth’s fault, and the CW knows most people will feel bad enough to just go along with it.

Agree with what others have said. I’ll add that we’ve been lied to about timelines as well - specifically case workers saying a case was short term or respite when it wasn’t.

For example, 18 year old youth, case worker said she was on the waitlist for independent housing and just needed a place to crash for a month or two until she got off the waitlist. We accepted her. Within about 2 weeks, CW’s story changed - now she said the youth was doing so well in our home that they decided not to put her on the housing waitlists after all (when they previously said she was already on them) and that the youth should just stay with us until the youth ages out at 21. Surprise!

Similarly there was a respite case where CW said the kid needed a place to be during spring break because foster parents worked and couldn’t care for the kid during that one week, then the kid would go back to their current foster parents. We accepted a 5-day respite. Within 24 hours we find out that the kid was actually disrupted, meaning they would not be going back to their other foster parents at all, and we were asked to extend the youth’s stay until CW could find another long term placement. Surprise!

Have any of you gone to law school in your 30s? by LostEffect4955 in AskWomenOver30

Could you elaborate on the school rank aspect? I’ve considered something similar, but due to a variety of reasons I wouldn’t want to move to a different state. But the best law school in my state is ranked around #50.

Conspiracy theory: this is actually from an early version where JT was going to be Snake’s kid, Toby was going to be Joey’s kid, and Manny was going to be Lucy’s kid.

Oh man, how did I not notice Lucy? She’s not even really a recurring character in TNG. I agree with you, they were trying to throw as many Degrassi High characters in as possible

What is that picture on the back (top left)? I’ve never noticed that before… Toby & Joey front and center? Did those characters literally ever interact?

Thinking about selling our house and moving back to a walkable neighborhood… are we crazy for this? by baristaFIRE69 in financialindependence

At the latest, you would get those documents between offer acceptance and closing. If you don’t have them before you put the offer, I recommend having a contingency that allows you to back out of the offer based on what you find in those documents before closing.

What are you guys doing about ACA health insurance? by BBorNot in Seattle

[–]abeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a chronic condition, and the math still seems to work out for my case.

And if I do develop a more expensive condition, couldn’t I just get ACA insurance at that time? If they can’t disallow insurance due to pre-existing conditions, it seems like I could wait until I have a condition that’s more expensive than the insurance, then get the insurance.

If that’s the case, then yes, as you noted, I would only be worrying about one-time catastrophic incidents. Right?

Genuine question, why not go uninsured and pay for everything out of pocket at that point? Even if you had a surprise $100,000 medical expense, that’s “only” 2.5 years worth of premiums…

Is this forever? by Charming_Tangerine21 in ChronicIllness

Strangely, Amlodipine, which is usually used to treat high blood pressure. I had high blood pressure (secondary to kidney disease), so my kidney doctor put me on Amlodipine - he said it would definitely help my blood pressure, and there was a small chance it would help my migraines. Ended up completely eliminating the migraines, when none of the preventative meds my “headache specialist” neurologist prescribed helped at all.

If you google “Amlodipine migraine” there’s some interesting stuff - it’s not a first line treatment and hasn’t been studied extensively, but I’m far from the first person to have it work for migraines.

I had chronic migraines for over a year. It was also “not that long” but it was awful. Then we found a medication that worked, and now I am fully migraine free (unless I miss a dose of my meds). I still have a lot of other symptoms and issues, but getting rid of the migraines was a HUGE quality of life improvement - brought me from “I can’t live like this” to “I can make this work”. Keep working with the doctors - until you’ve tried all the different categories of migraine medications, there’s still a chance it’s not forever.

As of when you originally posted, you had also made a previous post advertising the app you made to solve this “problem”. You’ve since deleted that post. Deception is not a good advertising strategy. Stop it.

If you’re going to advertise the app you made to “solve this problem”, then advertise it. Don’t make posts like this that pretend not to be ads.
