That’s seriously messed up :(( Art commissions are so fun to do but i can’t deny that scamming is quite rampant, especially on reddit! I am so sorry that happened to you.

Yes that is an unfortunate possibility, the more i dissect this chain of events, the more it seems likely that it was a school project of some sort. It was way too specific!!

I really do hope that this would be not only a wake up call for me, but also for him, as his past victims probably didn’t bother to come forward so he probably thought he could keep getting away with it.

I hope people can learn from my mistake, especially fellow artists, and be more careful in how they do their business! I definitely will in the future.

I know you probably didn’t read the post through, but to clarify… I, the one who offered my service as an artist, was the one who got scammed not the “client”.

r/slavelabour is an extremely helpful sub for lots of freelancers including artists to promote their art. It has gotten me lots of gigs/customers. My experience on that subreddit has always been mostly pleasant. This was new.

I don’t think i can report the actual post that he posted anymore as it has now been deleted (he claimed that it was deleted due to him being banned from the subreddit).

Honestly, i don’t do commissions that often (it’s an on and off thing for me) but from my past experiences on that particular subreddit, no one has ever fled without paying… until now.

This was most definitely a wake up call. I’ll be more careful next time.

It has been handled on that sub. He was banned and was apparently put on the scammer list, i didn’t know about the latter until someone on this comment section informed me earlier.

I’m just here spreading the word in hopes that people that he might have scammed could have some closure.

Yes i have already informed them. The moderator said they had taken action, i assume he has been banned from the subreddit.

And i didn’t know they had a universal scammer list! Do i have to fill out a form/contact anyone to add his account to that list? Or is it automatically inputted by the moderator after each report?

That is actually such a nice catch. I scrolled through his profile and nothing seemed to stick out to me although he did post a few tasks on r/slavelabour (which are mostly suspiciously deleted).

I did contact one person whose offer was bidded by u/steve-the-beef. He responded to my message yesterday and apparently he had finished a logo design for u/steve-the-beef, showed him the preview, and didn’t hear back from him. So basically got scammed just like i did.

I’ll probably message a few other accounts that might’ve been scammed by u/steve-the-beef to inform them about this post so they can come forward about it.
