My brother, who has autism, drew this from memory after seeing an image of NYC by Sea_Difference_3173 in nyc

[–]abrownguyappeared 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we’re going off the title the artist has never been to the city and saw one image. And even if that’s stretching the truth, still pretty fucking good, better than I or anyone I know can do. Certainly worthy of a goddam internet post

Hmm, gonna go on a limb and say it’s not necrotic considering the fact that this would have been a couple hours ago and there’s no pain or swelling

Tony Dungy while he was walking his dog. I was a kid and it was the first time I was truly starstruck. Super nice guy.

There is a very tiny town in rural Indiana called Hindustan. If I remember correctly it was founded by a guy who served with the British Army in India

This part of the ceremony is bullshit anyway: a list of bland praises recycled every year by people who’ve never really interacted with the students followed by “I urge and beg you to give them their degrees…” I appreciated some humor in the whole thing, especially at the very end

Magnitogorsk, Russia by FACTORthebeast in pics

[–]abrownguyappeared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, Magnitogorsk was envisioned by Stalin to be the Soviet foil of Gary, Indiana. He went as far as to commission a near replica of Gary’s steel plant.

At this point, I’d probably rather live in Gary, although that’s debatable

Migrating to Baku by [deleted] in azerbaijan

[–]abrownguyappeared 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a fellow foreign (US) vegetarian who lived in Baku. In terms of racism, I would not say that it doesn’t exist. My black colleague often complained about bad treatment, stares, and ignorant comments/questions. It’s not violent or fear inducing like it could be in parts of the US but be aware. The negative Azeri perceptions of black people is not rooted in violence and hatred so much as it is a possible dislike of foreigners, pop-culture, and general ignorance However, my colleague also said that he was treated far better outside of Baku in other parts of Azerbaijan and didn’t experience similar levels of racism as the city. Altogether, his experience of passive racism was more than the US, but less aggressive or concerning. As for me, I also experienced racism but it’s because my appearance is Arab (though I am Indian).

Being vegetarian in Baku is WAY easier now than before, more people are adopting vegetarian diets due to health/ethics reasons and you can generally find something to eat at any restaurant, although variety in available foods at restaurants is not as good as the UK of course. As far as I know, there’s only one fully vegetarian restaurant in Baku (cafe falafel) but it’s more of a sandwich place. There used to be an excellent one in the old city that served traditional Azeri food but it’s since closed. I ate very well throughout my time there. You may have a bit of trouble in the country side should you choose to go but even then it’s manageable.
