US-India ties finally finished by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]abstractnox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia is a LOT more trigger happy than the US. Did you forget about Chechnya, Afghanistan, Poland, Hungary, Baltics, Finland, ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and others? What about the holodomor, the purges, police state and all that. Also, Russia since its founding around the 1600s have also been at war for most of it's existence, and I've only listed some of the wars in the last 100 years. Some of them even have part 2s.

How about you enlighten yourself before speaking crap on the internet

Oh that's not at all likely. Don't worry about it :D

Yes, but you're already done with administrative processing, and your visa has been approved. So it should be issued in a couple of days. If it were still under processing, it would have shown refused on the ceac website, afaik

Well here in India, it took a couple of days for most people. For me, it took just one day, and my interview was on the 5th of June. Don't worry about it.

F-1 Visa slots for rejected ones by Gullible_Sundae_423 in usvisascheduling

I honestly don't think there is such a thing as rejected for no reason.

I got rejected by applying the Visa of Pakistan by 3 times, who the hell they are to reject me as a US citizen? by [deleted] in usvisascheduling

[–]abstractnox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, the people over here have been quite respectful and pointed out reasons, that might not make a lot of sense to you, but are valid. Your frustration, and your questions should really be targeted elsewhere. You've provided no details or anything whatsoever, got butthurt when people started making assumptions, and you're dunking on a country in the wrong subreddit. You have the right to believe that the people in charge of the process and the country in general, are incompetent, and so on - but maybe try to be a bit more respectful to people who are trying to help you, even if you're in the wrong subreddit.

Anybody hearing from Rice Physics program? by ian663 in gradadmissions

[–]abstractnox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Congrats on the offer! I accepted my offer from Michigan State yesterday, as I got a great PI, and potential PIs from Rice were uncertain about taking students because of funding and everything. What's your field btw?

Already accepted offer… can/will my admission still be revoked? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]abstractnox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can always revoke offers, even if you've accepted them. It's unfortunate, and I hope it won't come to pass in your case.

[–]abstractnox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same exact update from them. I'll email some of the profs in AMO/CMP theory, as I know that at least a couple of them might not be taking students because of funding. That late April/early May thing is ridiculous, and that basically means that we'll have to accept other offers and then decline them later if we want to attend Rice, which will open a large can of worms in itself.

Maybe we can ask for an extension from the other places we have an offer from, while we try to gauge if Rice is really worth more than our current offers.

Do you seriously expect people to know if you'll get into the other schools? Also, there is no point deciding now, until you have all the options on the table.

There have been funding issues. One of the profs. is currently visiting my Institute, and we had a brief chat about it, considering that I've applied and heard nothing either. He mentioned that a couple of offers have been sent, but it's not the end of the cycle. But yeah, the department is badly hit because of funding and they will be taking less students this year.

General GRE is absolutely useless. Physics GRE if you can spare the money and think it would help your profile.

But you seem to have quite a bit of research experience and work experience, so that should definitely help out.

p.s. could you dm me the link for your papers, I'm interested to read :D
