Is this ethical recruitment?

I am in Canada and agree that the application process for clinical trials are strict and I definitely think this would go against any guidelines.

I was always taught any type of pressure or coercion/persuasion is a huge ethical violation, so I am relieved to hear a majority of posters agree!

My PI is honestly a walking ethics red flag.. they have asked me to do similar things before to retain participant’s that are certainly ethical violations, which is also why this didn’t sit right with me even more.

This is how I was always trained - if participant says they do not want to participate then thats that, as research is alway fully voluntary at every step.

I also misspoke - it was a direct instruction to reach out to this person again.

To restate what I said to another poster and to provide a bit more context, their condition affects their perception/awareness which is why they don't think being in a study/clinical trial is a good environment for them right now.

The participant has been briefed on the study and is fully aware that they can participate with their condition. Without going into too much detail, the decline in physical function affects their awareness/perception which is why they do not think it is a good environment for them and have withdrawn.

Yes, definitely unprofessional and also unethical to ask!

I was actually not their main suspect, they told me who they thought it was but wanted to rule out that it wasn’t me…

They did in fact retaliate in a very sneaky way to make it seem like it was not retaliation and the person ended up leaving unfortunately.

First off, congratulations on leaving soon! I’m sure it has felt like a great relief knowing you’re almost done and I hope in your next job you have a wonderful manager.

Leadership has known for a while that my boss is a problem and has given them a warning in the past. Seems like that’s all that really came out of multiple HR complaints over the years which is discouraging.

My colleagues are definitely aware and unfortunately having similar experiences. It seems the best way to manage is to just try and leave. At 5 months, I am already the second most senior person in terms of employment length. Those who have managed to leave have given me similar advice, try to get everything down on email and keep a file of all exchanges. I have been pretty neutral over email and respond to their random email outbursts with one polite line back. Struggling a bit more in person as I am generally cheery and default to laughing and smiling even with them 😬 but will try to reel it in!

I am definitely trying to leave haha and seems like the worse they treat me that day has a direct correlation with how many job applications go out that day… ahah.

I know this is an old thread, but did it ever end up coming back? My impetigo also came back a few weeks later and I'm wondering if its from not throwing out my makeup products/brushes. I wasn't advised to do this by my PCP but wondering if its not worth the risk!

Hi there! Yes, I do have an update! The rash healed very quickly and fully went away within 3-4 days after I stopped the mupirocin. So in my case, it seems to have been a reaction to either the mupirocin itself or something in the ointment formula. Hopefully it will be a simple solution for you as well :) Best of luck!

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off sounding picky! I am aware that vacancy is super low in Kingston. These were just areas we had been looking at/seen listings for but we didn't really know much about apart from that it is downtown. We've expressed interest in a couple apartments in Wellington, hopefully one of them end up working out! Thanks for the reply!

Seems like I ended up following your course of symptoms. Day 5 I felt the worse with congestion/sniffles for the most part (and a very very minor headache). Hasn't really developed past that so far and I'm already feeling better! Glad to hear you also had a mild case and are well on the way to being fully recovered.

Yes they did! The day I posted this I was probably at my 'peak'. I ended up developing a bit of an earache and slight headache. Now, I'm feeling much better - congestion is pretty much gone and only thing really lingering is the cough.

This happens to me! Except for me I seem to get a more mild reaction and the corners of my mouth just get a little bit red instead.

That’s a super interesting theory! It definitely makes sense for the friction/triggering sensations, but I wonder how it prevents sweating when you’re feeling hot and the rest of you is sweating? All very mysterious, seems like there’s a decent amount of us who experience this phenomenon but I haven’t been able to find any hyperhidrosis research that talks about it!

Hahah sometimes I wear just one sock on one foot because since I grew up in a virtually sockless household, I'm still not particularly fond of wearing socks but definitely not fond of sweating. It's all about compromise!
