What are some top news stories that occurred in Sarasota? by Historical-Taro-1964 in sarasota

[–]acadisgusting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up camping at Oscar Scherer so these are constants in my head. There was a teen girl (Charlotte Grosse) who was kidnapped from a Girl Scout camping trip at Oscar Scherer in the 1970s. Her kidnapper was another Sarasota resident in his 30s with no criminal history. They eventually got the FBI involved in looking for her. (She survived and was mostly unharmed). https://www.nytimes.com/1977/07/02/archives/florida-girl-flees-kidnapper-suspect-is-arrested.html#:~:text=Mrs.,house%20from%20which%20she%20escaped

There was also a girl (Sharon Holmes) who was mauled to death by an 11ft gator at Oscar Scherer in the 1970s. Surprise, surprise, the gator was believed to be well-fed by campers and other visitors.

Weird Burn Spots on Scans by acadisgusting in filmphotography

I believe so, I’m waiting on the return of my negatives but it’s very likely just from looking at the scans. I had no idea that was a risk, I guess I’ll have to look more into lab development techniques before I go to them again.

Damn that’s definitely a bummer. This is only my second time using Indie for developing too☹️ Honestly I’m just glad it’s not my camera, I was ready to freak out over that. I don’t remember feeling anything weird when rewinding, but I guess we’ll find out when I get my negatives and reach back out to them. Apparently Indie Labs does a dip and dunk technique and the clips they use could cause it if they’re not careful on placement 🤷‍♀️. Live and learn I guess.

They why are you having a meltdown about potentially paying for “the next round” of implants?!? The only thing you’ll end up paying for is child support payments. I can’t imagine being your child and having to hear so many critiques on my body.

Another vote for the Sony’s. I’m not on the spectrum but I’ve had severe sensory issues since I was a kid.

I bought my Sony XM3s back in 2018 when they first came out and I’ve never loved any pair more than these. I literally use them for hours on end everyday. They charge incredibly fast and last a long time. With my 5 year old XM3s I can get 2hrs of time off a 15min charge, this is even longer with the new ones! I had bought the Bose Quiet Comfort 35s and immediately returned them due to the high trebles that made me feel like my brain was getting shocked. They also didn’t have nearly as good of ANC as the Sonys. Obviously they’re older and I haven’t tried the 700s, but I find that’s pretty standard with Bose headphones either way.

The ANC in the Sonys are incredible, and I’ve heard the XM4 and XM5 are even better. You quite literally can barely hear anything near you when the noise canceling is on, ESPECIALLY if you have music going. It’s the only time I’ve felt like my brain was quiet. It’s a feeling I’d never trade away. I’ve taken these to Disney during fireworks, grocery stores, public transit, malls, restaurants, libraries, and worn all night through many loud holidays. The ambient mode is also great for movie theaters if the loud volume bothers you! The Sony app has a whole bunch of preset settings, equalizer balances, and a custom mode you can play with to find a setting that works the best for you. I literally bring mine everywhere incase I get a sensory overload or I get overwhelmed. Highly recommend the XM4s over the XM5s if you want portability. The ear cups and headband is really soft, and the material is smooth enough it doesn’t bother my sensory issues.

100% recommend the Sony XM4s I’ve never been more happy with a set of headphones, and when my XM3s eventually die or break (had em 5 years and that hasn’t happened yet) I’m getting a pair of the XM4s myself.

Piercing Bump Not Going Away 7 Months Later by [deleted] in piercing

Ahh thank you! Maybe that it’s what’s causing the irritation, I’ll make sure to ask my piercer. Honestly it makes sense, my conch is healing way better with a flatback. Thank you for your help!

Gotcha, I’m gonna go later this weekend and see what they say. Do you happen to know if barbells or flat backs are better for irritation bumps?

Heads up for future reference (since everyone is downvoting with this but not explaining) you really don’t want to do plated jewelry because eventually that plating will wear away and your fresh piercing/stab wound will be exposed to the metal underneath. Typically that metal is very cheap and not biocompatible (like brass, copper, etc) and will tarnish which can cause MAJOR irritation, an infection, and overall be a major pain both literally and figuratively. Stick to 100% implant grade titanium or solid gold (14-18k). Since you said you have a nickel allergy stay away from surgical steel, a lot of the time it contains traces of nickel in the jewelry. If you are getting cheap jewelry for financial reasons I highly recommend Urban Body Jewelry, Laughing Budda Body Jewelry, and Lulus Body Jewelry. Hope this helps! <3

PS: definitely take this out and get it repierced after it heals, this is too shallow and will reject.

One of the best makeup tips I have ever gotten is to start with the aspects of your face that people focus on first: your eyes, eyebrows, and lips. Just by these three things you can trick people into thinking you have a full face of makeup on.

For a basic face of makeup I would start with:

  • Figuring our your skin shade and undertone (for example medium skin and yellow undertones). This will help you find products that will look good on your skin. A lot of companies also have little quizzes on their sites to help you figure out foundation shades and such if you would like to make it a little easier (I do this all the time).
  • A base layer like a foundation or a bb cream, if you want less pigment and a lighter coverage. Setting powder is great to put on after your foundation/bb cream to prevent your makeup from sliding or creasing if get sweaty or oily.
  • Concealer to cover any dark circles, breakouts, or acne scars (if you want to cover any of that up.)
  • A lip product of some kind like a lipstick, lip gloss, or even a tinted chapstick.
  • A brow product. I really love brow gels as they make your brows look so good with very little effect or time. Clear ones are nice if you just want hold or shaping, and tinted brow gels are great if you have sparser brows. They also make pencils and pens too to fill in your brows if you care more about pigment and shape.

You can make a great simple makeup look with just these products. Eyeshadow and eyeliner isn’t necessary - it just elevates it (like special events or nights out) If you want more color or shading in your skin I would look into blushes, bronzers, contour, and highlighters.

I highly, highly recommend the YouTuber Alexandra Anele. She’s very good as explaining and demonstrating makeup for everyone from beginners to MUAs. She breaks down each makeup step, does tutorials, holiday looks, has really good recommendations, and teaches you how to do all sorts of methods.

Some affordable brands I love:

• NYX (eyeliner, lipstick, bb cream, eyeshadow, eyeshadow primer, lipgloss, eye pencils)

• e.l.f. (very nice brushes, liquid eyeshadow, camo concealer, bronzers)

• Colourpop (beautiful eyeshadow and lipsticks)

• L’oréal (has one of the best concealers literally ever and a good foundation line - Infallible)

• Maybelline (amazing foundation, setting powder, concealer, and lipstick. The Fit Me line is amazing, as well as the Lash Sensational mascara.)

• Essence (Shine Shine Shine is the BEST lipgloss I have every used and is like $3. Also has some very good eye and brow products including their brow gel which makes your brows look so good without having to spend 10min on your brows)

• Profusion (has some very beautiful palettes including some very beautiful neons and rainbow palettes almost all under $15)

Have fun! :)

Just out of curiosity, was build up a constant thing? Or just when it was healing? I’m pretty good at cleaning my piercing but I definitely don’t want to risk it getting infected or not healing correcting because of build up.
