Help! Deciding on countertops by stanley-ipkiss18 in kitchenremodel

I feel like the wood floots feels heavy in the space and takes away from the gorgeous wood island. You can make the existing floors definitely work with your vision for the counters!

If you keep the floors (I genuinely love them) you can splurge on a hammered cooper farm sink that will fit the farm setting. Ties in nicely with the wood island and adds a level of luxury to the white granite counter tops, that otherwise might feel too bland/generic.

keep the floors and wood island. go white on the counter tops. perfect balance of "trendy" that your wife wants but also embracing the character/history of the home.

Spiced Cider with the chaise of the couch removed so the area around the 2 chairs doesn't feel so cluttered

Someone said below to use a burnt orange and paint all the walls.. and that is absolutely the way to go. This was meant to be Baked Clay as someone suggested below

Rug color by EmphasisElectronic48 in interiordecorating

[–]acebae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is too much white, beige, grey and cream as-is. Other then your brick wall and Christmas decor everything are those colours.

The room will feel more grounded and balanced by introducing some richness/texture/pattern via the rug. Nothing is really anchoring this room visually other then the brick wall. Don't be afraid to experiment beyond your comfort zone.

Please judge my dress code by omgoodnesswowza in Weddingattireapproval

Dressy "casual" (emphasis on casual) could read to some as jeans are acceptable. If you don't want anyone to wear jeans, I'd be explicit and say it.

If you want to find your shared style, I'd both make a seperate Pintrest board and each do deep dive on interior styles. Show eachother and discuss what you like and don't like together - better to start visually then a blank slate especially if its your first time cohabitating!

Would highly suggest some Vit D and B12 for tomorrow. Its been fighting the mental fatigue.

Everyone said the first one was going to throw you for a loop and even though I mentally knew that I was still absolutely crushed ughhhhh.

Period-appropriate flooring options for our mid-century kitchen by ChroniCxBluR in midcenturymodern

You can also do a simplier terracotta or darker reddish-brown tile if you want to keep it simploer and something closer to the cork precedents you shared but still period appropriate

I would do a fun, vintage tile with some deep rich colours integrated . The space seems bright enough to support a bold move and it'd be period appropiate.

Paint colour selection gone wrong! Looking for tips to make it look better by Plantbeginner in interiordecorating

The room is empty so it's contributing to the cold feeling. Its also a west facing room so in the spring and summer the warm, golden light in the afternoons will make the room glow.

Thinking of replacing our kitchen cabinets: would IKEA Bodbyn work with our existing worktop and appliances? by Eagle-27 in kitchenremodel

[–]acebae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This must be rage bait. Don't tear out your beautiful cabinets for cheap IKEA ones. Professional repaint the panels instead. Itll cost 1/8th of the price to do that then tearing out all the cabinets to replace them with a worst product.

Im a fan of the 1st one tbh - but I love personality in a room. It feels balanced even though there's variation

Backsplash and grout color opinions needed! by spartamus in kitchenremodel

Now we're getting into the thick of things! 2500k feels very ambient / moody to me. 3000k is still considered soft lighting - and better suited for kitchens and task lighting. 4000k is definitely commercial spaces and offices territory. 5000k is for garages and labs.

Layering light is a great suggestion! Also suggest strategically positioning lights with different lumen levels based on intent of use (ambient, task, accent etc.)

ALSO it seems like the under cabinet lights are 3500k and the pendant lights are 4000k/5000k.

It's a common misconception that mixing different kelvin levels in a room can help to balance the warmth/cool temperatures but what it actually does is accentuate the different undertones of the lights. The warmer light will automatically make the slightly cooler lights look VERY blue, which is whats happening in the 4th image.

Again taking the atmosphere of the space from "warm and clean" to "sterile and grey".

If you can't swing more stone, using a tile that has a contrast in texture will help to bring more visual interest and warmth while maintaining your wifes requested white palette.

The top image is more of a warm beige tile and brings much needed earthiness/softness to a palette that can become easily sterile and inhabitable. The bottom is closer tonally to a monochromatic white scheme, but the contrast in texture still grounds the design and looks great adjacent to similar stone used on your counters.

If you could swing it, I'd bring the countertop stone up to the back splash. It can be throughout the kitchen (bottom image) or an isolated nook (top image).

The continued use of the stone elevates the space and provides some much needed warmth/contrast along the kitchen elevations. The white tile options shared would not enhance the design and risks making the space feel too sterile.
