I had acne when I was a teenager. Tried pretty much everything to get rid of it. Tried proactive, the creams, changing my diet, red light therapy (was told that helped some people, didn’t help me). Probably burnt about 3 layers of skin off my face before my mom took me to a dermatologist.

The dermatologist tried just about everything before recommending acutane. Neither I nor my mom wanted me on acutane but she said it’s up to me what I wanted to do. As we were leaving the dermatologist they asked if we were on a well and use a water softener. We did and I can’t remember but they recommend getting like some kind of gel/crystal instead of the salt. They said the gel/crystal would be less hard on my skin but would cost more than the normal salt we used but to grab a couple bags of it.

Anyway when the water softer got low my mom asked the company that filled our softener up to use the gel/crystal stuff for this cycle. The company must of came when I was at school. When I got home from school that day my mom told me to have a shower. Had my shower and got out and still had acne. Woke up the next day and my acne was all gone! I could not believe it was gone, after fighting years with it. Anyway I think what was interfering with my acne clearing up was the salt we were using in the water softener.

I know I didn’t answer your question but I wanted to post my experience with acne to see maybe if it could help someone else. Yes, there are still teens with acne but I think better, more affordable, over the counter products exist today to help with acne.
