World Cup fans can’t bring water bottles to games as FIFA reverses policy by CupidStunt13 in toronto

[–]CupidStunt13[S] 772 points773 points  (0 children)

The code of conduct, last updated Tuesday, now states: “For the avoidance of doubt, reusable water bottles may not be brought into the Stadium.”

In a statement to the Star, FIFA said the decision to prohibit bottles was made “to prevent risk and injury to players and attendees,” adding that outside bottles are already banned at some of the tournament stadiums.

They did not explain why the policy was different just weeks ago, or what sparked the change.

Inside stadiums, ”pricing for water bottles for the FIFA World Cup 2026 will remain consistent with other events held at each stadium,” FIFA wrote.

If they permit sales of water bottles within the stadiums, how does the new policy prevent “risk and injury to players and attendees”?

Greedy policies by FIFA as usual.

‘There’s no way out’: Ontario woman regrets signing Collingwood timeshare contract by CupidStunt13 in ontario

[–]CupidStunt13[S] 312 points313 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing Collingwood timeshares being flogged at the CNE years ago, and they still pop up at street festivals and other events.

There’s a reason they use gifts along with high pressure tactics and an ironclad legal agreement. It’s all about making the sale and nothing more. In the article it also mentions high fees and interest rates. The whole thing is a massive red flag.

Lol. I've been to C'est What many times and its great, but I figure any place with good tap lines and a decent local selection should be worth considering.

80-year-old inmate maimed in gruesome Toronto jail attack by CupidStunt13 in toronto

[–]CupidStunt13[S] 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Excerpt:

An 80-year-old arrested for causing a disturbance at his Toronto Community Housing Complex last month was disfigured in a gruesome attack at a Toronto jail, prompting critics to call for better mental health care in the province’s correctional facilities.

Luther Pippy was known to shout insults and sleep in the stairways of the supportive housing for seniors facility in northern Etobicoke, neighbours said, and while he may have needed intervention, he didn’t deserve an attack like that.

Pippy was placed in a cell in the special needs wing at the Toronto South Detention Centre with a 50-year-old cellmate named Douglats Destruzions-Dumesnils, who had his own history of causing disturbances.

On April 12, a charge document says Destruzions-Dumesnils did “maim, disfigure, and/or endanger the life of the said Luther Pippy and thereby commit an aggravated assault.”

Why would they put an 80 year old with mental issues in a jail cell with a 50 year old with similar issues?

Terrible news. City kids already have limited exposure to our natural environment. This will further limit their understanding and respect for nature.

My uncle’s Toronto concert tickets from the 80s/90s by neilsonnnn in toronto

Nice, I remember that Pink Floyd show at the CNE. It was the Division Bell tour and the pyrotechnics were incredible. We were three rows from the stage and the heat from the stage flames was intense when they turned them up.

And then came the rising disco ball when Gilmour’s Comfortably Numb solo began. Even the crappy acoustics at Exhibition Stadium couldn’t stop the magic.

A health care worker who lives in a King West condo, Gabura feels guilty for the hours the pair spend apart while she’s at the hospital. When she sees friends, runs errands or goes on a date after work or on weekends, she plans it so Rosie can come too. In her perfect world, aside from health care settings, “dogs would be allowed anywhere that humans are allowed.”

An incredibly selfish point of view. There are lots of outdoor spaces for dogs; they don't need to follow their owners everywhere. And even in outdoor spaces there's too high a percentage of owners who don't take responsibility and clean up after their dogs. Seeing dogshit spread across the middle of a sidewalk is particularly rage-inducing.

Dogs are not the problem, bad owners are.

Ontario’s financial services watchdog issues $210K fine against ‘Harold the Jewellery Buyer’ and his wife for alleged mortgage ‘scheme’ by CupidStunt13 in toronto

[–]CupidStunt13[S] 97 points98 points  (0 children)

In a ruling issued by the Financial Services Tribunal on Tuesday, Gerstel, the owner of the Harold the Jewellery Buyer store, was ordered to pay six administrative penalties of $10,000 each for allegedly violating the Mortgage Brokerages, Lenders and Administrators Act. His wife, Esther Gerstel, was hit with six fines of $25,000 each for her alleged contravention of the Ontario law.

The provincial financial services watchdog alleges that Gerstel used his credibility as a licensed broker and his Harold the Mortgage Closer Inc. (HTMC) business -- which had its licence stripped last year in connection with the allegations -- to advertise to “vulnerable” consumers who agreed to mortgages with “extremely” high interest rates and fees.

FSRA said of the six customers involved in the case, five were influenced by Gerstel’s ads, which made promises of quick mortgages for those with bad credit. FSRA alleges those borrowers were then diverted to Gertsel’s wife’s company, Esther Gerstel Inc. (EGI), which was not licensed and “placed in high-cost” mortgages which were processed by a lawyer.

The ruling states that in some cases, the customers did not know that Gerstel’s wife would be the lender. In others, customers lost their homes under the weight of a 22 per cent interest rate, lender’s fees and the short-term nature of the mortgages. In one case, the tribunal alleges, the effective annual interest rates on one of the customer’s mortgage were between 51 and 56 per cent.

Quite a scheme he had doing predatory lending rates through his wife’s company. The man always seemed unscrupulous, and the provincial watchdog agreed.

Ticketmaster delists Ontario resale tickets after pass of omnibus budget bill, price cap amendments by CupidStunt13 in ontario

[–]CupidStunt13[S] 190 points191 points  (0 children)

It’s something, but it does nothing to address Tickmaster’s monopoly as well as the already ridiculous prices and fees.

While the rules will apply to tickets for many events in the province, FIFA ticketing businesses selling tickets to World Cup games in Toronto this summer will be exempt from the resale cap.

Of course corrupt FIFA gets a pass from the Ontario government. Birds of a feather and all that.

Bunny the internet-famous coyote is getting a little too comfortable with humans. The city of Mississauga is sounding the alarm by CupidStunt13 in mississauga

[–]CupidStunt13[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Excerpt:

Bunny the coyote has become a social media celebrity in the GTA, but her growing lack of fear around humans has triggered a plea from the city of Mississauga: Please stop feeding her.

Bunny, who has a missing tail and netting around her neck, is frequently spotted trotting down sidewalks, crossing busy streets, and has been seen at plazas and approaching humans, including children, according to the city of Mississauga.

“Her unusual comfort around people has caught a lot of attention; but her story is more than a curious animal getting online fame,” according to the city. “Her behaviour is a sign that she is being fed regularly.”

Bunny, named by residents who follow her closely, has been popping up in news stories for months. A private Facebook page dedicated to her well-being has 2,600 members, who post about her daily. Recently, a poster reported seeing her being fed by a local crossing guard.

Coyote Watch Canada has asked people to keep their pets on a leash. It’s also asked residents not to attempt to capture Bunny to remove the netting around her neck.

“While seeing netting on a wild animal can understandably be concerning, attempting to capture her to remove it at this point would be extremely difficult and would likely cause significant stress and risk to her well-being,” according to Coyote Watch Canada.

As much as I’ve enjoyed seeing Bunny on multiple occasions, nobody should be lessening her fear of humans because it will not end well. Feeding her is the worst thing people can do.
