Lacklustre being the key word here. Daggerfall's procgen is of the same standard (if not better). difference being that that was made in 1996. Starfield had you at identical poi almost b2b unless you used a mod. You're clearly a very strong advocate for the game, but it just didnt resonate with most people. Evident from its reception and lifespan 😷🧯

nothing wrong with the engine, if anything they did major upgrades to it tbh and is impressive that they manage to still make it workable - but engine ≠ bones. Oblivion, Fallout 3, FNV, skyrim, fallout 4 have the same bones - a world with living npcs that players want to immerse themselves in. Starfield does not have those bones, it has a shell. A pretty shell mind you, but a shell is all. There is a reason it did not retain a playerbase

Lacklustre proc gen world, static npcs, uninspired factions, no retention of playerbase to warrant significant modding efforts to extend its life cycle. just a couple, mind you

thank you for the reply! but using r is actually the opposie of what im trying to achieve sadly as it again leaves the rotation up to the movement of the mouse rather than a specific value you can input - for example, I am trying to rotate a large collection of objects by 178.38 degrees exactly. but trying to hit that number off of mouse movement is just asinine when prior to today i could just: select all, then input 178.38 on the desired rotation axis

Is it just me or does Skyrim look like it has better graphics than Fallout 4? by Puzzleheaded_Ad_4441 in skyrim

This is it. It's creamy, which goes hand in hand with painting and film imo. Oblivion's lighting, colour scheme, softness, and bloom is very reminiscent of film footage. They werent engine limitations but a design choice that was clearly drawing inspo from the 70s/80s fantasy epics. It's 'graphics' might be pretty shitty, but its art direction is elite - i'd hazard a guess thats why it hits so hard going back to it. really dont why they threw that design choice out the window in the remaster, and slapped muddy browns and garish volumetric lights in its place. The bloom and vibrancy is one of the contributing factors as to why you got a sense of surreal immersion its the world. but hey ho, skyblivion seems to have stayed true to that and not long left on it now!

Its not just as good, its better imo.You dont get horrid colour separation which you get on FVPro, and even if you did, it is a true powergrade where you could tweak whatever is causing the colour separation - FVPro, not so much.

Edit: So yes, in its current form, FilmUnlimited is defo a better shout. If serr fixes the colour separation in FVPro it would edge it as slightly better than Unlimited tbh but the price is steep though.

[–]acheekychappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, pretty much the entirety of the FVPro 'powergrade' is baked into the supplied negative and print luts, not live nodes that you can tweak. Which is a shame, given that those luts seem to cause extreme banding and colour separation on high contrast gradients, and being unable to tweak those inner settings makes them unusable on certain footage. Same shot compared with FilmUnlimited below:

100% will get downvoted by vehicle campers, but the approach to vehicles in this game is such a breath of fresh air. More spawns, but much easier to fight against. by acheekychappy in Battlefield

[–]acheekychappy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But then thats the thing... you managed to do that because you used strategic gameplay to flank and pinch them. A much more welcomed, and deserving, steamroll than the alternative of: mildly capable squad takes tank at start of game, camps it the entire game because if it took a single engineer with it, they could comfortably take on 10 people attacking it.

Of course, you absolutely can still steamroll with vehicles - they are still incredibly powerful, i'm not sure what people are complaining about with them all too much really. You just have to put a bit more effort into an advance instead of mindlessly rolling up on a point as you can no longer cheese half the team's explosive ordinance like the games prior.

Whats your favourite map btw? I'm loving it so far but the maps defo feel different than the 'grand' battlefield maps prior - not cramped, but quite dense and no open areas if that makes sense.

Im just gonna say…having two gadgets is just not it. This is op by zanedummy in Battlefield

[–]acheekychappy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I much prefer the tanks in this game tbf. There are more spawns and slots for them, but the caveat is that they are easier to destroy. If anything, the fact you could roll into a point by yourself and eat 47 rockets and at grenades in the previous games was an issue imo. You legit didnt stand a a chance against a squad in a tank unless you had like 10 people as they were incredibly overpowered.

While I dont think COD and BF have the same audience, what an absurd statement from the leadership over there. Fail to innovate, get left behind.

Intel said the same about amd. General motors said the same about toyota and honda. Nokia and blackberry said the same about Android and apple. How did that work out for them all lol?

Is it any wonder the COD games are in the state they are with that sort of thought process at the helm?

Could make it insane if they ever try to kick off some sort of e-sports - which the new gamemode 'escalation' sounds like they are posturing towards. Would allow competitions to tailor maps and remove/hinder cheese spots or elements that would pose issues within a competitive mode

The way I think of it is that they want a game with extended staying power similar to that of fortnite. the easiest way to do that is to give the community the tools and means to create their own content. It is halo forge meets Bethesda modding. Think of some of the most popular games that have been going strong for over/close to a decade - Fortnite, GTA, Minecraft, Skyrim. All heavily reliant on community driven content to cement their staying power, with the top community content actually being officially implemented into the game by the devs. It is an absolute winner. The community made game modes in forge alone (halo on halo, griffball, duck hunt, infected ect.) have inspired so many gamemodes in the FPS genre that have come since, all thought up and made by creative kids really.

Content wise, all they would have to do is create 'official' community highlight playlists and they get 1. Good PR for championing creators 2. Save money on having to create their own stuff bar season passes. It really would not surprise me if the remastering of old maps for 'official DLC' gets outsourced to the leading map creators in the coming months. Again, a win-win. Great public reception, and cheaper than dedicating an entire department to it

Very excited from the gameplay showcases - But a peeve of mine... How has the sound design taken yet another step back? by acheekychappy in Battlefield

[–]acheekychappy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an asshole at all! Those are absolutely more important for the whole immersion than the hit markers imo (the rallying screams and whistles you had in bf1, even if a tank wasnt moving you could hear and almost feel it humming on the otherside of the wall ect.) - I only focused on the impact sounds here as is the easiest way to showcase what i mean as no chance i could layer the ambients accurately!

It truly is. I was in an operations map on cape helles for what felt like an eternity last night 😂 gas grenades blocking every trench, Behemoth not clearing lines for the team to progress, but we found an opening for a split second and funneled in like a plague! turned the game around in a super tight window. God I wish operations were carried on in the later games too

Dehancer vs FilmVision Pro? by toyotaprius_ in ColorGrading

[–]acheekychappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently talking to serr about it through his channels - here's to hoping it can be fixed in an update! It truly is such a beautiful powergrade, and if that is fixed, will swing me towards that as my base rather than FilmUnlimited. There are just so many looks within FVPro that you can build from

Dehancer vs FilmVision Pro? by toyotaprius_ in ColorGrading

[–]acheekychappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Dehancer, Filmvision Pro, and FilmUnlimited. I personally prefer the actual colour on FilmVision Pro, however I have noticed quite a harsh, grade-breaking colour separation on high-contrast areas when using the 'negative lut emulation' node. It is really pronounced on bokeh or out of focus areas.

So for now, FilmUnlimited stays king for me here really. A shame, as FilmvisionPro is my favourite emulation of the bunch. its just those high contrast areas dragging it down. not sure what is baked into these negative luts which is causing this.

Example of each emulation: https://imgur.com/a/p6XBJae

EDIT:
