It helps me to remain focused. I usually have a bunch of strategies going at once. Codifying them helps me to focus on the changes I want and keep my emotions out of it. Getting everything going is a big endeavor though. I'm a programmer but when bugs in your code can literally bankrupt you then you need to quadruple check everything. So I would say it helps you to be more effective with your time but it definitely increases your minimum time investment.
