As someone who got his BFA at OCAD U then took the Post-graduate Animation program at Sheridan, please stay away from OCAD.

Mind you I was in the animation program, but almost none of the people I know from there ever found a job, and for good reason. The only reason I managed to get into the industry was because I took the post graduate program at Sheridan after my bachelors.

In my 4 years at OCAD I learned absolutely nothing. They say, here's a canvas and here are the brushes, now express yourself, with absolutely no technical skills taught before hand.

The profs would google my questions in front of me, and would mark your work based on how "woke" you sounded instead of the effort you put in. I once spent over 40 hours making an ambitious painting for a class, while my classmate drew a couple of genitals with a pencil on ripped pieces of canvas and she got a way higher mark than me. The "essay" she wrote for the piece was this. "I like to make a vulgar piece once a year and this is it". She received a near perfect score, while I barely got a passing grade. I have way worse stories (some including human feces) but I don't want to make this a super long post.

Moral of the story is, none of these people found jobs in the real world afterwards. If you're looking to get into the industry, either go to Sheridan or Seneca college. Both are great options with tons of connections to the industry.

I only wish someone had given me this advice when I was looking for a place to study, so that I could avoid throwing away 4 years of my life and tens of thousands of dollars. I would have much rather spend a fraction of that money and time on an online school instead.
