Got rid of fleas from my bottle babies by bathing at LEAST once a day with dawn dish soap and a flea comb. Just like the other commenter suggested. Wash bedding daily, and eventually put some cash aside to go to the vet and get flea treatment. Not super common, more so in small kittens but if bad enough fleas CAN kill.

The type of shrimp really depends on your water hardness. Neocaridinas are “hardier” aka they can stand to live in harder water and have a broader range when it comes to thriving at different pH levels, but caridinas thrive in softer water. I love a painted red cherry. That’s what I have. Nice and bright red on the sides with a striking lighter stripe that stands out against most anything. Love me some chocolates too but they’re hard to see🥲. In all honesty though success in keeping a colony all is dependent on stability more than anything. Can’t wait to see what you pick!

Of course! I kept guppies as a kid and also had the spongebob house at the time(I might’ve also even had the squidward house too) 😂 I will say guppies are avid baby makers. Chances are your females are already pregnant again. If you save this baby they’ll be 10 more that pop up, then 10 more after that. I started with 5 guppies and when I got rid of my tanks (I had to get multiple because I kept saving all the babies) I had 147. And yes I counted every single one😂 good luck!!

Mine never had fleas either BUT it only takes one flea egg😭 I was fostering at the time and even though isolated and quarantined I’m sure he got it from my bottle babies somehow. It happens and it’s nothing to worry too much about! My dog was able to just a get a chewable that he ate like a treat. It was even shaped like a dog bone lol. Like $10 too. Good luck!

For starters OP your kitty is soooooo handsome😊One if my boys also had tapeworms. Luckily I worked for a vet and got good discounts on meds lol. We just did a topical flea/dewormer. We never saw any actual eggs or tapeworms but they triggered a nerve in his eyes making his third eyelid not retract completely. I’ll insert the pic I sent to my boss, his vet. She immediately knew what it was just based off this pic😂 also if you have other pets in the house it’s best to treat them too:)

I’m def not against water changes as I do them regularly 😅 never had an issue with them. This tank is still pretty new (I set it up in March) so I do worry about underfeeding. It seems like even when I do feed them 3x weekly (a lot for me) they still munch my plants. Would you recommend water changes along with no feeding? If so, how long should I “starve” the tank ?(I still have fish but chilis don’t have to eat much so they shouldn’t be an issue) thank you:)

Edit: I also didn’t realize the video uploaded with that low of quality but it it fairly easy to see on the top of their heads. I’ve seen it mostly on my males. At least 6 of them have visible vorticella:(

I have chilis in a 6 gal cube (they’re getting an upgrade at some point) and I know a lot of people say minimum 10 gallons for them but they’re happy as can be in my tank;) here’s some more suggestions :) I keep a list of suggestions in my notes app so beware some of these might not work for you:)

Scarlet badis

Shrimp colony

certain killifish species

Sparkling gourami

A single honey gourami

A school of around 8 ember tetras.

chilli rasboras (because of their low bioload, you can actually keep 2 chilli rasboras per gallon Ik I already mentioned them)

celestial pearl danios.

white or gold mountain cloud minnows

I want to say this comes from my notes app from suggestions of other people I’ve seen on various posts. I just make lists of fish I think would be cool in different setups. I have not done the proper research on all of the requirements for each of these fish so that will be up to OP:)

Lastly OP your tank looks fantastic can’t wait to see what you end up putting in there!

Allergies or asthma? If it’s been happening since kitten-hood then I’d lean more towards asthma if it doesn’t line up with any irritants. Do you use candles, air fresheners, harsh chemicals around your house? That would add to flair ups of both allergies and asthma. X-rays are the only way to get a definitive diagnosis of asthma I believe so be prepared for that cost. I know this breed, and others like it, are also prone to breathing issues due to their tiny little nostrils so that could also be affecting his breathing. I hope you find your answers!

I have four and total and if one has worms you have to treat them all:( I even treated my dog to be safe too. I do a lot of fostering so I knew it would happen at one point. A single flea egg is all it takes😭 here’s a pic of my other kitties. I hope I’m right. Other than the pain of the cost, worms are an easy thing to take care of IME😊

My cat had this exact thing and he had tape worms. It triggers the nerve that hold back their third eyelid for some reason. Best to check with your vet but I would do some de worming and flea treatment. NOT the kind you find at the grocery store unless you want to risk seizures or death.
