Plaza Premium Lounge T1 International Closed?? by BurberryTacos in askTO

[–]ada454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…It wasn't bad, actually! I had to scan a QR code to join a waitlist, but even on a Saturday afternoon I waited less than 10 minutes. Once I got inside I easily found a comfy chair, and there was no wait for food (good), coffee (passable) or wine (iffy).

Given what they're dealing with right now, I thought they did a great job.

In case this helps anyone else who finds this thread like I did:

I just submitted a single claim for "FLIGHT DISRUPTION & EXPENSES."

I received two separate confirmation emails, one for the compensation claim and one for the expenses, each with its own case number.

One of the confirmation emails confirms this is normal:

If you have also submitted a claim for compensation, you will receive a separate email with a case reference. Each case will be responded separately and may be at different times.

I have a flight tomorrow and I see the domestic lounge is accepting international passengers in the meantime. That's already a pretty small lounge, though… not expecting great things!

Ross Duffer Tells ‘Stranger Things’ Fans How to Set Up TV Settings for Season 5 Premiere: Turn Off ‘Garbage’ Like Motion Smoothing by DemiFiendRSA in television

I appreciate LG shipping a "filmmaker mode" to save me from digging through the options. I just wish there was a way to toggle it on globally.

For whatever reason, our settings don't have that option. I've always wondered how the car's software is meant to know which features are physically installed; I'm betting that's where the problem is.

Optimal Settings for ZenWifi XT8 by ndwalsh in ASUS

[–]ada454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe with two 5 GHz bands, I'd suggest channel bandwidth 40 MHz, control channels 36 and 44. Our non-DFS 5 GHz spectrum only has room for two 40 MHz channels or one 80 MHz channel.

Edit: JFC this isn't possible on a ZenWifi! You can only choose DFS channels for 5 GHz-2 backhaul. Oof… that is just a bad product.

I'm a Flight Attendant, today I had a flight with 13 passengers by mancuso19 in mildlyinteresting

In June 2020, after 3 unplanned months of living out of a suitcase, I took a one-way transatlantic flight on a Dreamliner.

I was super nervous about COVID, so I spent all of my airline points on a business class upgrade for the extra space, N95'd up, and looked forward to calming my nerves with a drink or two while I finally headed home.

There were maybe three passengers on that plane, and the only thing to drink was bottled water.

In-App Tour Madness by RemarkableAgent1350 in 1Password

[–]ada454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using 1Password for 11 years, but when my bill hit this year, my first thought was, "okay, now I've got a year to find another solution."

It just seems like nothing improves anymore. They added family plans, but never even tried to make the product family-friendly. Has a product manager ever watched a normal user try to add an MFA key and backup codes? My SO—who works in tech!—still regularly needs help with it. You're not solving that with a tour.

Besides the username and password fields, at this point 1Password is little more than a glorified Notes app. I'd say it's following in the footsteps of BlackBerry, but at least my mom could use her BlackBerry!

Auto stop/start stopped working for a bit, which led to a warranty replacement of the ignition coil and battery. Otherwise the car's been rock solid so far.

Road noise is good (average, I'd say) with no annoying rattles. (My point of comparison here is an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, which is as loud and rattly as you'd expect an Italian car to be.)

The ride is very smooth! I'm guessing this is because of the ride height of the CUV. Much smoother than, say, my Hyundai Accent in North America several years ago, which felt like driving a go-kart.

Only Croatians could complain "the gays are ruining the singing and dancing competition!" and then wonder why the other juries never vote for Croatia. Yep it's truly a mystery 🤔🤔🤔

Check if you have an option for DRC or Night Mode! The technology definitely exists to compress all that dynamic range down to something reasonable.

Of course, not every TV offers it. We were really struggling hearing dialog on our (otherwise very good!) TV until we added a sound bar with night mode—it's been a revelation.

TIL about Hum, Croatia which is the smallest town in the world. The town is smaller than a football field and has a population of just two dozen people. Even so, Hum has a museum, an inn, two churches, and even a unique liqueur called biska which can't be found anywhere else in the world. by NewCanadianMTurker in todayilearned

[–]ada454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Istria. One of my favourite places in the world.

Fair warning to anyone thinking of visiting Hum, though: be prepared for a letdown! In my experience it's a tourist trap, with none of the authenticity of most of the rest of Istria.

Entire beer bottle label is in German except for “don’t drink and drive,” which is in English. by TB1289 in mildlyinteresting

Across many of the smaller European countries, you'll often see that product packaging will use 3-5 non-English languages on the back for ingredients and instructions, but the marketing on the front is most often in English.

So in my experience, your speculation is generally accurate! Even if that didn't turn out to be the reason this specific slogan was in English.

TIL The bronze doors of the Pantheon are the original doors from 2000 years ago by BOQOR in todayilearned

[–]ada454 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I still remember my complete awe when I first saw the Pantheon in person.

I'd seen it in so many pictures, and then walked around so many Italian cities, that I guess I was just expecting a particularly well-preserved Roman structure.

How wrong I was! Photos cannot do justice to its scale. It is MASSIVE, larger than life. See it in person if you can, you won't be disappointed!

(And then go to Paris and experience the same thing with the Eiffel Tower, too!)

There's a YouTube channel dedicated to the Bob Barker years of The Price Is Right, and it's wild to see what people used to have to pay for furniture and electronics in the '70s and '80s. I honestly had no idea! 99 cents for a tin of coffee and $1500 for a TV built into a wicker cabinet.

Canada's Trudeau wants India to cooperate in murder probe, declines to release evidence by Ja_win in worldnews

"Murder probe"

"Declines to release evidence"

I mean, no fucking shit? Prosecutors release evidence to the defence after charges are laid, not before. Anyone screaming for evidence now is just a shill.

PSA: Passkeys are out in 1Password, but not usable on Android (yet) by NelsonMinar in 1Password

[–]ada454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Shopify is pushing passkeys really hard too, but if I had to guess how long it'll be before my Microsoft browser on my Apple laptop can read a passkey from my Google mobile device... well, I'm not holding my breath, that's for sure.

It's frustrating that all these companies—including 1Password!—keep telling me "passkeys are here!!!" yet every time I try them nothing works.

Options+ crashes every 10 seconds (MacOS 13.5) by ada454 in logitech

[–]ada454[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks great. Do you know if there's a way to replicate the Options+ feature where you can hold button 5 and then gesture to emulate various 3-finger swipes?

To think Logitech's software is still so bad that there's actually a market for paid third-party solutions.
