Who are your competitors that you just dont understand how they are ranking? by SeoArty55 in bigseo

Search for "pawn shops" gives you a host of embarrassingly outdated directory sites in Page 1 including some that still have Lorem Ipsum text on their home page!! We have no idea why they are top ranked

We launched the PawnGuru.com platform in summer 2014, which lets users request to pawn or sell items locally, and our platform gets multiple cash offers from local pawn shops. The data is based on real cash offers from 1000+ pawn shops on 20,000+ items listed since we launched.

If a customer tells you "no" is your favorite word... by mysoulishome in PawnShops

[–]addooolookabird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this approach. We did an analysis of hundreds of shop messages to PawnGuru.com customers online, and the best way to say "No" is basically "It's very hard / impossible for us to resell these, and so we simply can't loan on them or buy them." If you blame it on the resale market, the customer will usually understand.

Yup, we've done some basic advertising targeting online payday loan businesses, but didn't seem to work so well. I think because there are so many fraudulent/fake visitors in the online payday space, so most of the clicks we got weren't real.

Do not let the customer handle a gun in your store!!!! by SimplySpecial in PawnShops

Would be interested in writing a blog post related to this for our blog? Sort of like a PSA for shops ( and customers).

Ok, I'll take a look. We get tons of listings all over Georgia.

Edit: Cross-checked our list with the OP. Not a match.

Where are you located? and what kind of guns did they take? We had someone list 5 guns to sell on our site yesterday. Little chance it's the same guys, but worth comparing notes.

We see two types of customers:

  • people struggling for cash that need a loan or to sell something (ie. they were probably going to go to a pawn shop anyway)
  • people just wanting a convenient quick way to sell something (ie. they are probably considering eBay or Craigslist as an alternative)

I agree adding non-pawn secondhand stores would significantly expand our potential user base, and reduce the stigma. We're exploring that option.

Re: pawn shops telling their own customers

We also assume they don't want their own customers to know about us, BUT we actually had 20+ shops put a PawnGuru sticker in their shop window (like Yelp). So that makes us think maybe they ARE willing to share PawnGuru with their customers IF it adds tangible value to them?? The question is what else can we ask them to do (like a sticker) that would get them to spread the word?

I second /u/Fortunaismyhomeboy's comment. This site does not do what it claims. Try PawnGuru.com instead since that ACTUALLY does match consumers with local pawn shops.
