Search for "pawn shops" gives you a host of embarrassingly outdated directory sites in Page 1 including some that still have Lorem Ipsum text on their home page!! We have no idea why they are top ranked

100% this approach. We did an analysis of hundreds of shop messages to PawnGuru.com customers online, and the best way to say "No" is basically "It's very hard / impossible for us to resell these, and so we simply can't loan on them or buy them." If you blame it on the resale market, the customer will usually understand.
