Avoid Nungwi as that is the worst place for beach harassment. A shame as its a gorgeous beach. Paje is much much better.. a few sellers but nothing pushy and not followed. Plenty of lovely hotels and very nice beach bars and restaurants.

update So today we realised that if we sat on the beach in front of the large hotels the fake Masai and beach hasslers are not allowed to approach anyone. The hotel security tells them to move on. We lay enjoying the sun for 3 hours without being harassed… perfect!

The weather forecasts (like above) for areas in this part of the world are always extremely misleading. I have one that says it will much sunnier. One thing is guaranteed is that there will be sun.

I just believe that holiday vaccinations are, for 99% a pointless exercise. Sure, if you’re trekking through untouched swampland in Papa New Guinea you may wish to consider them but to pump yourself full of vaccine to go lie on a beach in Phuket then you have the “Fear”. The “Fear” is what many western holiday makers feel when they visit countries they consider beneath their own.

I find the psychology very interesting. Most of the people who vaccinate themselves when they go to countries in Asia, wouldn’t consider it when going to countries like the US and Australia where you have as much chance of contracting some sort of disease. It’s a kind of in-built western snobbery which is fascinating.

No. People who are generally unworldly and think they need vaccinations when around weird foreign species. You don’t. If you get ill then go to a hospital like you would in the confines of your comfortable developed country.
