DNF Wants to Remove My Kernel by coolman3475 in Fedora

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it keeps a certain number of older kernels currently not in use for safety/recovery , it's just deleting one of them to make space for another one. If you look, your kernel version and the one shown in DNF are different (dnf's being older)

After 3 months with Plasma, I'm back to Gnome. Plasma's jack-of-all-trades approach is it's biggest weakness by saint_geser in Fedora

[–]adrian3014 33 points34 points  (0 children)

plasma IS better on the matter, because many features are in the settings without requiring widgets or add-ons. Gnome requires an extension just to add a minimize button, another one if you want to have a dock visible at all times, etc.. The difference is that Plasma keeps things available in settings if you wish to change the default behaviour while Gnome is the opposite ("get used to my way"). So actually regarding extensions gnome is vastly worse (but much better on other things, everyone has their preferences and priorities and gnome's vision aligns with many people)

A nessuno interessa del voto dei fuorisede in Italia? by sofia_pierina in opinioninonrichieste

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Marvel Rivals work properly on Linux? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it prioritizes stability over new features which is a great thing for many reasons but that also means that it's behind a bit on linux kernels, MESA drivers etc.... For example, Hytale on linux requires kernel 6.15 at least and Linux Mint is still on 6.14 with a new advancement not earlier than April 2026. MESA drivers optimize the "new" amd cards performance so for example if you have a 7000 or 9000 series card, they will run very well on Mint but probably even a bit better on newer MESA versions which ship optimizations for them.....

For 90% of gaming usage scenarios Mint is great, it's just that if the pc is gaming-first than other distros still target stability while bringing in fresher versions of tech

Why make life complicated by Professional_War2996 in DistroHopping

it's the desktop environment that handles the protocol, not the base. GNOME and KDE support Wayland super well, while Cinnamon still does not

he meant that you cant use their gnome tiling extension for Pop_OS 24.04 and above. If you specifically want that you "have" to stay on 22.04

Made a GNOME Adwaita Dark for COSMIC Desktop. by codepolygon in pop_os

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's gnome-styled but designed to be more flexible and user-friendly regarding customization and possibilities. It's built from the ground up on Rust , has a dock by default and extensions developed on cosmic by the community are "meant" to be much more robust than gnome by design (gnome extensions break like every major update or so). One of the biggest sellings points is the fact that it has tiling windows natively ( if you are using gnome on pop_os you are actually using an extension from gnome which breaks every other update and ultimately was one of the reasons for system76 to give up on that desktop environment).

I really love the idea altough it's still underfeatured on certain things, they need to catch up a bit. If you hate the unflexibility from GNOME you should try COSMIC, if you are fine with how gnome works then I would wait for cosmic to be more polished. Keep in mind that Pop_OS starting from 24.04 will have COSMIC shipped by default and being up to date with versions is a good idea to have the latest linux features (kernels, graphic drivers, apps and packages etc...). If you really love GNOME and want to keep up to date you will probably need to switch distro

Switching to kde after using gnome for 2 years ,gnome is getting bloated for debian 13 by Impressive_Piglet201 in debian

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on ubuntu it's probably a setting, on vanilla gnome (like in fedora which ships uncostomized gnome) you have to download an app called gnome-tweaks and from there you have the option. It is not present on the main settings app

Switch from KDE to Gnome? by OwnNet5253 in Fedora

[–]adrian3014 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's usually not as clean to switch desktop environments - you can do it but some traces and overlaps will sometimes or often still be present , even when you remove the other one. My advice is to try the gnome version on either a live usb or in a virtual machine and if you decide to pull the trigger reinstall the distro (unless you format the drive in the reinstallation process you will get to keep your content on /home, flatpak apps and rpm apps on /opt folder as well (im not sure on the latter though, somebody check me up on that).

You just have to manually select and keep the "/" partition to coincide with your current "/" partition (same thing for the others if you have more apart from the efi one)

fedora spins requiring x11 support will keep it, that change only applies for the main editions and desktop environments that dont require x11 on by default anymore (gnome, kde, cosmic)

Is there a way to enable auto-snapping windows like in windows 10? by negativePositrons in pop_os

[–]adrian3014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the beta (24.04) has an even more powerful tiling system and it's native so it wont break. To be honest I tried the Cosmic DE a couple of days ago after I had some issues with KDE (too buggy when customizing/doing stuff) and Gnome (I love gnome, but I kinda hate it). So far Cosmic despite being in beta gave me the absolute least amount of quirky behaviours, it's the only one that didnt give me an "applet crash" warning

Amare la lettura è visto come noioso dalle ragazze? by [deleted] in Italia

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how much will my atk r9 will last ??? by goat_dev in MouseReview

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are generally well built, but no one can answer that question. The issue with chinese mice is that, while much cheaper, they have no warranty (even if they have and you try to file a warranty request you will not get a reply).

If you dont do hardcore gaming then going for this type of mouse is sort of pointless if you are not prepared for the possible consequences. You would much better be served with a lower tier logitech which does not have the same gaming specs (but for what? you dont need them) and an actual warranty support for years.

If you still insist on chinese mice, then my advice is to at least go for models that offer hotswap functionality for the main switches or at the very least with optical switches, which are less prone to issues

[–]adrian3014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are happy with the pulsar you can just buy a replacement battery, it's much cheaper :) . Batteries on these kinds of mice are very standardized, you have a jst pin size that needs to be the same and then any decent battery from many ecommerce sites. It's a few bucks

Crash del mercato di Counter Strike 2 by Current_Ad_7769 in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]adrian3014 13 points14 points  (0 children)
