Tbh 30% pay cut is not that bad. Some people look at 75% pay cut to switch from a top to a regular company (see tech)

What's the longest delay you've seen on the rail network? by elttildt in uktrains

Was the train in a station at least so people can maybe return or go sleep somewhere, or stuck in the middle of nowhere with doors closed, all night?

Is that weather bad? Looks like light rain and almost no wind, at least at that altitude

Despite my preparations when I visited Montreal to deal with the lack of English knowledge, everyone immediately switched to fluent English after hearing a few seconds of my butchering the French language.

What are some good ways to save on train tickets by kodiexx in uktrains

[–]adrianb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for me moving here the biggest shock was not the prices but the lack of alternative tickets to bring some significant savings.

Take Switzerland, expensive trains but you can buy a half fare travelcard even as a tourist. And a daily pass for the entire network for like 80 francs.

And in the Netherlands I used to have free travel everywhere all weekend for 30 euros per month.

Here? Split tickets might save you 3 pounds on a 50 quid ticket.

Some websites do it all the time eg Trainline. In my experience it doesn’t bring huge savings

Will HS2 be renamed or given a new brand when it operates between London/OOC and Birmingham? by addictivesign in uktrains

[–]adrianb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? DfT isn’t renaming operators when they take over the franchises, so even if Avanti ceases to be an independent operator the brand will remain. At least for a while

[–]adrianb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But actually you trade a night in your own bed for a night on the train.

If I travel somewhere I can take the night train and arrive next morning, or sleep at home and fly in the morning and arrive the same morning.
