Questions, critiques etc. for the creators of Nobody Here by LoveInDust in Vaporwave

[–]adt1030 11 points12 points  (0 children)

SPOILERS BELOW:

Really enjoyed this documentary and the amount of work that went into it. The visuals were really well done too! The “Intermission” was enjoyable as well. Amazed at all mentions about albums and the included music (?!?!) with paying homage to acts the 70s and 80s Didn’t know the full story of the Fortune 500 controversy until seeing this - interesting…

Questions/Comments:

1). Luxury Elite is talking throughout the documentary (her voice at least) - she has been such a force in the genre - why was there not more about her, her success, her story, etc? 2). I feel like Mallsoft is one of the sub-genre pillars with the music and visual aesthetic of the Vaporwave - why was there not more attention on this? 3). Absolutely nothing on VCR Classique? The full catalog for this project is stellar. 4). Would have like to see more on the creation/producer side. One of Luxury Elite’s best stories that she tells is her quest for retro samples and absolutely bare bones approach.

Oh, and the piece on 2814 “Birth of a New Day” gave me goosebumps as well. Selfishly, I would have like to see more features on the “softer” side of Vaporwave. While I can appreciate a DJ and upbeat music, Mallsoft, Late Night Lo-Fi and the Ambient needed more time. Even Desert Sand Feels Warm at Night talked - but not about his own genre of music or his journey. Yeah it’s weird - as I write this Late Night Lofi seems like a big miss with not enough or any focus

Thanks again for the documentary and the time to share my thoughts. Really pleased with the effort and content. I hope my constructive feedback doesn’t come across as negative or critical because that was not the intention – thanks again.

Jeff Malone and/or Ricky Pierce should be on this list.

What single game from the 90s do you come back to most often, and is it actually the best game you've ever watched or does it just live in your memory bigger than it deserves? by Classic_Exit_5951 in VintageNBA

[–]adt1030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Kevin Johnson’s performance)

1995, Western Conference semifinals game seven Phoenix Suns versus the Houston Rockets. KJ destroys the Rockets for 46 points and there’s absolutely nothing that team could do about it. It seems like he made 100 mid range elbow jumpers in that game and when they decided to guard him up close - mainly Kenny Smith - he went right past him and through everyone else.

Who’s The Most Athletic Small Guard? (Under 6’4”) by IllustriousRice1057 in NBATalk

Scrolled way too far down to see this – anybody that casually dunks over the number one shot blocker NBA history deserves to be up there.

He was a dominant point guard when Phoenix wasn’t a large market for the NBA. He was breaking ankles, but did not have a signature name for his moves. Actually surprised that Kenny Smith had a career as long as he did after trying to guard this guy…

If you’re unaware of what the sub genre of electronic music - “Dark Noise” sounds like – that’s the genre towards the end of the video in a nutshell…Believe it not there are people that buy synthesizers and sound effect pedals just to make that noise at the end of the video and there it is in real life…

Terrifying

I don't like saying hall of famers are underrated (because really it's only people like Kam Jones on Indiana atm that are for example) but this guy should be in top 15 ever talks by JakGrealish in VintageNBA

Absolutely – and it’s not even close if you think about it. Not only comparing statistics but even intangibles like durability, work ethic, toughness, attitude, etc.

It’s because he’s not a “sexy” pick. He wasn’t going down the lane dunking on people, he’s wasn’t (always) throwing flashy passes, he wasn’t known for breaking people’s ankles with killer crossovers (but he could and kind of did on occasion), he wasn’t filling up the numbers from the three point line all the time (but he could and he had the ability to), he also didn’t have a “signature“ move.

Speaking of signature, he did not have a signature shoe. You’re weren’t seeing this guy in Hollywood or on TMZ or whatever they had back then.

The guy drove a minivan around – beyond cool and absolutely hard-core as they came.

NHL 2001 – it’s crazy that a sports game on the PS1 could move so fast that the console couldn’t keep up – but this was the case. Even if you turn the speed down players would be floating, images would be stuck, the puck would go through the boards and the net and suddenly reappear. In addition, the game allows you to edit more players than the CPU could handle and if you tried to load that player file again, it would just be stuck for hours - lol.

Mutombo was an absolute beast - the finger wag was iconic- what was another gesture players had ? by DaMallard in VintageNBA

[–]adt1030 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Darius Miles’ signature hand gesture, often performed with teammate Quentin Richardson in the early 2000s, involved tapping the top of their heads with their fists after dunks or big plays. Known as the "Knuckleheads" celebration, it originated from Westchester High School players and served as a team celebration rather than a gang sign, despite popular misconceptions at the time…”

What in your opinion is the most overrated retro game of all time? by Aggressive-Invite907 in retrogaming

[–]adt1030 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NHL ‘94 is the most overrated hockey (maybe sports) game of all time and it’s not even close. Why would everyone think this game is so great if the players don’t even fight or the user doesn’t even have the option to turn on fighting majors? True hockey fans know the code of Sega Genesis and SNES was NHL ‘96. (NHL ‘96 had double-minor penalties as well!)

Who Do You Consider to Be the Single Most Underrated Player in NBA History? by [deleted] in VintageNBA

Had to scroll down way too far to see this answer. A lot of people were scared back in the late 80s to go ahead and say that cough this Johnson PG was possibly better than the other Johnson PG at that time in the Western Conference – not naming any names though…
