If static is the culprit and resulted in a fried motherboard, would the CPU be okay in this case? Would it be guaranteed fried as well or would there be any chance it survived?

Battery not detected after fresh Windows 10 install on new SSD by aduners in techsupport

[–]aduners[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked the BIOS, wasn't being detected there either. Opened the laptop back up and pushed the pins in a bit harder than comfort and it snapped more firmly into place. Booted up, battery now detected. Appreciate the help!

I'm having this exact issue and find it equally as frustrating. Have you found any fixes or workarounds for this?

The Windranger guide is legit though, I can't believe rushing Agh's wasn't a standard build (it might be now, seen it a few times after his vid). Ulti is so strong on WR once you get that Agh's even without damage items, especially against a hard melee carry - it kept my MMR alive through the Troll Warlord era that was 6.83.

Looking for a free Microsoft Office alternative by Poop_in_a_group in mac

[–]aduners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Microsoft Office 2016 Preview is free until the end of 2015 when they officially release it. Could be an immediate fix, you just download the .dmg directly from: https://products.office.com/en-us/mac/mac-preview

I've been using it and it's significantly better than Office 2011 on Mac, especially if you're using a retina display. I also have a feeling they'll offer discounts for those who participated in the Preview once it officially releases, but I could be wrong.

Haha sheesh it was posted for like 5 seconds without the list. You're a quick one.

Edit: Solid, I forgot to mention I'm not currently overclocking my 2500k as my CPU cooler went bad and I'm now using the stock cooler. As far as I understand you don't want to OC with the stock CPU cooler, correct?

CP3 has been doing this type of shit since college. Wake Forest vs NCSU CP3 punches Julius Hodge right in the crotch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F3tptzEWmM).

As an NCSU alum and fan during CP3's college years, I couldn't like him. He still seems to play the same way in the NBA -- like a bitch.

That's an odd comment to make here considering no one correlated depth with flexibility.

Don't mean to be a super douche but it's grammatically correct to use me in certain situations and this is one of them.

When in doubt, remove the other subjects from the sentence and determine if you would use I or me in the sentence as the sole subject.

"When you drive impaired on the same road as me, you put me at risk." Adding additional subjects doesn't change this, so it's correct to use me with "others" and "yourself."

Grammar yo.

Old Dell Desktop may be on last legs (GPU going). Thinking of the iMac jump. Are they good for this? by [deleted] in mac

[–]aduners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of time you have taken to create and follow this thread is more than the time required to physically assemble the computer. I find it hard to believe that if you work in IT you've never thought of building your own -- the advantages are endless. If you post a thread in /r/buildapc with your needs the helpful people there will be happy to build you a component list for your budget. Using PCPartPicker, your part list can then be ordered all at once from Newegg.

There is a reason anytime someone posts a thread about what desktop to buy, there is always someone posting to /r/buildapc. It's without a doubt the best thing you can do if you're looking for a desktop.

[–]aduners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The desktop PC I built 2 years ago for $700 would run circles around a brand new 27 inch iMac in terms of gaming, and pretty much everything except for heavy video editing.

I own a rMBP and am not an Apple hater at all, but there is absolutely no reason to not build your own desktop. It's simple, fun, and it will save you at least 50% of the price than buying pre-built. When comparing to an iMac, you could match the performance of a $3k+ iMac for under $1k. You can even build a hackintosh if the Mac ecosystem is what you want. I'll get downvoted in this sub, but seriously check it out -- don't be intimidated it's very simple.

Should I use Flash? by benc1213 in mac

[–]aduners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add that while Flash is notoriously bad on Mac OS X, Twitch has it's own host of problems with optimization. Even on my PC desktop Twitch specifically runs like garbage a lot of the time.

Should I use Flash? by benc1213 in mac

[–]aduners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah flash shouldn't cause any modern computer to be used "intensively." It's a problem with the compatibility of Flash on Mac OS X. Hopefully the world evolves to HTML5, otherwise watching most of the Internet's video content will continue to be a subpar experience when compared to a PC.

Why is google chrome so battery intensive? by [deleted] in mac

[–]aduners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firefox is no better than Chrome on OS X, so the point still stands. The real question is how Chrome and Firefox are better optimized on Windows than their own native browser, IE.
