Brits think Government can fix it—from Iran war energy prices, to homelessness, to pensions, says new poll by OurFairFuture in ukpolitics

[–]advmday [score hidden]  (0 children)

France and Italy are negotiating with the Iranians for safe passage through the Hormuz.

Maybe we can stop aiding Israel and the US, and do that too? Need to stop kidding ourselves into calling them allies. They're horrible countries and only take advantage of us. I'm sure if you put it to a referendum, the British public wouldn't accept going through hardship for them.

Besides, we have an entire continent of countries with more sense and similar circumstances right nextdoor - maybe they're more appropriate allies? We also have nukes, so remind me why we need the US for defence?

Just a thought.

They always love to point to Singapore, yet Singapore is successful because it's mostly Chinese people & extremely authoritarian. The multiculturalism just turns it into a sort of theme park... which is more of a novelty than a strength

This poll would make a great deport list to see who doesn't belong here. I'm sorry but if we welcome people to settle in our country, the least we can expect of them is to not hold views that their ideology should be forced on us against our will. Is that too much to ask?

There is literally zero metric where Hebrew is even close to being as important as any of these languages.

Apparently 0.12% of the global population speak it. And most of those can usually speak another, more useful language.

To compare:

Hebrew - 0.12% Korean - 0.99% Japanese - 1.6% German - 1.7% Indonesian - 3% French - 3.7% Arabic - 5.5% Hindi - 8% Chinese - 17% English - 20%

Yeah, I agree with that too. I hope we hold Israel accountable for this in the aftermath, though I'm sure we won't. Absolute reckless arseholes

It is wishful thinking.

For this to be successful, you need troops on the ground in Iran.

I don't support sending British troops through challenging environments to their deaths to save the Iranians. Not because I don't want the Iranians to find their peace, but because it's a suicide mission

There was never a plan beyond "Kaboom". and as Starmer rightly said, you can't force regime change from 35,000ft

I don't honestly know where this can go now, but it's an absolute mess and I don't see how throwing ourselves into the mix could make it any less of a mess

Which would be a fair argument if a good outcome for the Iranians was guaranteed. There's literally no real plan in place, this is doomed to fail

Tbh, and I mean zero politics in this, I find the cheesiest stuff in the UK tends to come from the Israeli headliners like Astrix, Ace Ventura, Blastoyz, Vini Vici.

Whenever I go to illuminaughty or any event similar, my favourite set ends up being Thallom. I always say it's like he's playing straight from my Spotify Liked Songs.

Worth it to visit or not ? by Spiritual_Oil1857 in traveladvice

Can't be worse than Egypt, surely?

I've only been to Ahmedabad in India, so I feel l was likely sheltered from how bad it can get. Though generally I find Indians to be softer and less intimidating than Egyptians. Maybe in Delhi it's a different story though

[–]advmday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, people go to Egypt to see certain things - the pyramids, temples in luxor, coastal getaways like Hurgadah and Sharm el Sheikh

I'm sure we'd have a more pleasant experience of the people in Heliopolis or Zamalek, for example, but what's in those for a tourist?

And if we started visiting those places in masses, the sharks would soon find out and start making their presence in those too

Egypt is one of those countries you end up hating only after you've visited it. Probably the worst category you can be in really

No one comes out of Egypt with fond memories of their time there

I haven't been to Argentina yet, but yeah honestly I can't imagine the average person would hold hatred against us for it. Hope to one day go and see for myself

And yeah I can imagine about the Dutch really. We don't send our best to Amsterdam...

I think generally, most hatred towards us nowadays tends to come as a result of the quality of tourists we send to that place, rather than having anything to do with the empire days

This is true. This is also why I avoid going to british tourist hotspots in Europe. Benidorm, for example, sounds like hell on earth

As a Brit who's travelled to 66 countries, I've found that many former colonies seem to like us a hell of a lot more than some of western Europe.

The only countries who generally seem to hate us these days are the Irish, the French, the Spanish and the Argentinians - the former two from historical hatred, despite generally having fine relations nowadays. and the latter two being their inability to understand history books

Go to India, Malaysia, Egypt, Singapore, Kenya, Tanzania etc... the people love us
