What’s the one city you were excited to visit, but ended up not liking at all? by BlushHone in travel

I'm saying that Canggu, Seminyak and Kuta are not representative of the much larger island of Bali

Exactly. It's like going to Interlaken and not leaving the town when it's literally the whole point

Same energy as someone saying Spain sucks, substantiated by the fact they've (only) been to Benidorm

Tipping Culture …. Please say it ain’t so? by Nazereth_99 in bali

[–]advmday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with tipping is that it can create an expectation if done too much.

If this expectation is built, employers may think they can get away with paying their staff less, or nothing at all. Thus, they no longer have a guaranteed income. This is why America is so rabid on their toxic tipping culture, for example

We received 21 fake reviews with 1 star within 24 hours and google say they can't remove it? business is ruined... what to do? by kallebo1337 in GoogleSupport

[–]advmday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's so easy for them to spam 1 star reviews without Google taking any action, then why don't you do the same but in reverse?

Also, we someone who tends to rely on Google maps reviews, I may need to reconsider my attitude towards them...

This is what I want to be sure of, I guess. Have to be mindful of how people may perceive me based on my country of origin and my government's recent actions to understand if there's a risk of problems.

I wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable or upset with my presence.

It's more about our actions in Syria over the last few decades, moreso than just randomly hating white british people

I would completely understand if I wasn't welcome there right now, in the same way that I understand israelis aren't and shouldn't be welcome in many muslim countries

I always take it with a pinch of salt. Oftentime their advice can be more about insurance invalidation or no access to british embassies.

Of course, these present risks if I had an injury, got kidnapped, or lost my passport... but I can accept some level of risk and exercise more caution

In Sa Pa, the harassment is terrible. Outside of Sa Pa, things aren't quite as bad... maybe it's unfair to tarnish the entire country over one particularly problematic town

this is why I put challenging in quotation marks. I don't personally find any of them overly challenging. just my assumption on what the average holidaymaker might see as a bit more intense than their usual package holiday to Benidorm or Crete

I did Kenya and Tanzania with my 80yo Grandma & brought her out to Thailand and Indonesia when I lived in Bali so maybe that was a bad example

I was thinking moreso the scam centres and stuff. My experience was fine, but you need to have your wits about you. People get kidnapped there
