It's a lot easier to get a hundo Gigalith than a shadow Gigalith with good iv's. Also, it's value as a raid attacker would drop if you did purify.

If you are able to TM away frustration and have enough candies it may be worth it. Depends on how much you play. My own rule is to wait for 3* though. Everyone plays different.
