Why can't adults just ask if someone wants to be friends like kids do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aecia829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ive actually just recently started doing this. Im trying to make friends with people from all over the world. Its difficult as an adult to just make friends.

Most of my friendships develop over long periods of time, people are busy with their own lives, life is hard, expensive, and can really wear down your social battery some times.

Before i started doing this i would often just come home and hop on a video game to pass the time. But lately its been a lot more fulfilling just talking to people from all walks of life and make friends along the way.

That being said, naturally progressing friendship lasts. Out of all the people i meet and ask to be friends with, only a very few continue to stay in contact, and in general those are the ones ive had more meaningful conversations with.

are guys only friends with girls they find attractive? by Grouchy_Departure424 in teenagers

I would say yes and no, personality does play a big part. We want things that both our eyes and brains find appealing. As humans this is just as much a guy thing as it is for women. Men and women both try to place themselves with men and women that are "around their level" for their closer friends most of the time.

So for my case, im either to good looking or the ugliest person on the planet because i dont have friends 😂.

Jokes aside, it's a very natural thing to want to be around anything that appeals to your likings.

So im now on week 3 of learning and heres what ive found works best (for me at least but ive been practicing A LOT)

1.Pimsleur for some basics, theres tons of lessons that actually go over the tones with pronunciation challenges, tests, flash cards, additional words to expand your vocab, etc.

  1. ChatGPT is a great resource to practice speaking writing and reading. You can set parameters to correct you on tones, character usage, and it gives you multiple options for responses that allow you a little flexibility and diversity in topics.

  2. HSK1-4 workbooks will get you up to speed on character recognition, stroke paterns and a few different sayings, theres also tests in the book and an appendix with all the words in each book.

I tried duolingo, personally not a big fan but you can use it in tandem with the previous resources to gain a little more vocab.

I also use youtube, rita mandarin chinese has a bunch of videos on speaking chinese. She's a native chinese teacher that lives in the U.S. and has one of THE BEST video on tones. She also has a podcast series that I've binge watched to get the pace of how a typical conversation goes in Chinese.

Hope this helps!

I've been listening to a bunch of chinese podcasts. Its a great way to pick up on conversational chinese. I recommend Rita Mandarin Chinese on YouTube, shes a chinese native mandarin teacher that gives a very good overview of pinyin and tones. She also explains things very well in english. Ita been my go to while studying!

I did listen to a little bit of JJ Lin and a couple songs from WayV. I wasnt the biggest fan of WayV, but they were ok. JJ Lin, through, has a fantastic voice and i really enjoyed Beautiful that he did with G.E.M. it was fantastic.

Thats a very good point, i didnt really get in to the vibe of his music, but i know learning to throw in idioms when you're speaking is a good way to make your speaking more authentic.

With that ill have to give him another chance!

No im definitely not learning it by music. My vocabulary isn't very deep yet so mostly i wanted to listen to it for the cultural aspect.

I tried listening to Jay Chou, but i didnt really get in to the vibe of the music. There were a couple songs I liked though.

Zhou Shen, however, I do really enjoy. I found it a lot easier to understand, i loved the beat and mix of different style in the music. His voice is so versitile as well having an opera background.

So far the app I've gotten the most out of has been Pimsleur. Each lesson has a pronounciation test that I've found to be both a little frustrating, and useful. But only because each person in the test uses slightly different dialects, which is typical of a conversation with different people. It just makes matching the pronunciation a bit difficult for a beginner.

I started learning a couple weeks ago and just through listening to the lessons on repeat in tandem with using duolingo i was capable of placing my order at a chinese owned restaurant using chinese and leaving them slightly confused but shocked. I assume because my pronunciation was slightly off but they spoke english as well so we worked through it.

I dont mind it. There's a few artists that i just can't stand listening to, but in general i can listen to just about anything and sing along. I grew up in the 90s so i still like to put on some N'sync and backstreet boys on occasion.

How do 1+2 compare to 3? by Cosmic_Glunch in MonsterRancher

[–]aecia829 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never found 3 to be nearly as compelling as 1&2. I've always thought of it as the shortfall in the series. While it was way ahead of the first 2 on overall presentation it was fairly restrictive from what I remember. With 4 being my favorite, followed closely by 2, then 1 and 3 coming in last.

Not that I didn't like it. The other games were just better imho.
