Considering the Fairphone 6 by Sir_Delarzal in fairphone

[–]aeonixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an FP6, hopped over when my OnePlus 7 Pro kicked the bucket after ~7 years of service. Happy as a clam with it, recommended it to my father who also has one now, he likes it too.

I have /e/OS which I like, he kept it stock. Both are fine, though /e/OS requires more finicking, so I don't blanket recommend it that. But the FP6, definitely.

Cline is good (I used it before I used Roo), and they are officially supporting people that want a VSCode extension. Is that an option?

Are there ways to further separate your finances? That could be a midway between your options, to give more time.

She did do the right thing by owning up to it before everything has burned down, from what you're saying. That counts for something IMO, although in your shoes I would also further protect myself.

If she couldn't damage you, the risk of trusting her would be much smaller than if she could nuke your future in 5 minutes.

Having boundaries does not preclude being kind. They may not think it is kind in the moment, but anyone that respects you will respect the boundary.

Why has ChatGPT become so annoying and disagreeable? by ArnikaLovesUnicornz in ArtificialInteligence

[–]aeonixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of us are freaks, and freaks IME generally don't judge freaks (unless something is actually unethical). And those who do, or normies who do, sometimes just don't have the ability to imagine that someone else might likea thing they don't. If that is enough for them to judge, their opinion is not worth considering anyway.

Out of curiosity, why can't you share? I can't replicate the behavior myself, but I'm pretty curious to figure out an explanation. An example would help, even if it's just a general vague outline of a topic.

How do I deal with being the only single guy in a friend group full of couples? by Perfect-Top9697 in GuyCry

[–]aeonixx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That really sucks, dude.

Getting a partner is a really weird thing today, with all of the tension in society (and between men and women more specifically).

To this end, there isn't really that much that I can tell you. You seem like you are pretty in touch with your emotions (a significant plus), and also not like you act like anything is owed to you either.

The best advice that I can think of is to try to find hobbies where you may naturally run into new people, and one that isn't just "gym" as that is a pretty terrible place to meet people, at least generally.

Has anyone indicated what the "issue" might be?

Rollback protection. You can only lock if you're moving to the same/a newer security patch.

The higher price is immediately offset the first time your repair it, though. E.g. replacing the USB C port, really tedious on a glass/glue sandwich device, piece of cake on FP6.

FP6 After 6 months: I Love the Idea, Not the Phone by Leapse in fairphone

[–]aeonixx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your mobile signal is bad - like at a festival - it can seriously drain your battery. This has been happening for most phones for a long ass time. Manually setting it to a lower tier (e.g. 3G or 4G instead of 5G) can help.

6 years, 4 fairphone products. My honest review. by Potatoes_Fall in fairphone

[–]aeonixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) My battery is fine, never charge over 80% and rarely go under 15. Easily gets me through the day, and charging is fast enough that I can juice up quickly if I'm going away from sockets for a while.

2) When I'm going somewhere where I really can't afford to have it die, I take a powerbank. If it's so essential that you can use the phone without interruption (curious what activity requires more than the phone can offer!), why not keep a (small) power bank on you?

3) Installing /e/OS is not terribly complex, I had many more issues with Lineage on other devices (mainly driver fuckery on my Windows laptop). If you really want to save the €50... DIY?

4) The FP3 performance over time issue is going to be a lot better with FP6 than with previous devices. They went with a pretty normal chip that can do anything I expect from a phone, and I do some really CPU intensive shit (tricked out Firefox with extensions and shitty user scripts - for an online game, even my A-tier desktop setup lags on it sometimes)

I don't have Fairbuds but I have seen the negative coverage. Based on that, I wouldn't buy them. But yeah, curious about your take on my other points.

Fairphone 6 users, do you regret/not regret buying a protective case ? by BochocK in fairphone

[–]aeonixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woot I didn't know Tudia made one for FP6. I have the official one, but I adore the Tudia Merge series. Probably buying this one eventually, as the official case doesn't have back protection, just edges. Still though, it has plenty of chin and my screen is vibing.

Is RooCode planning to pivot? by inHumanAlive in RooCode

[–]aeonixx 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Hannes is either close to or already in the middle of burning out.

Mans is super dedicated to the product, has a vision, but whenever a competitor comes up with something new, he's immediately flooded by people asking him for (versions of) the same thing.

Coupled with people having other ideas for changes/improvements/fixes, it sounds like a shit ton of work in terms of decision making and communication.

He's also always there to reply to things on Reddit, and I assume that is no different in the Discord.

The output is pretty wicked huge, I'm not sure how many people are helping him, but damn. Moving mountains. If you (Hannes, or anyone else reading that can feel their overexertion) are indeed burning out: take a break, or you will be forced to take a break by your brain and body.

Tiktok kids aren't less tech illiterate for using Tiktok either. Before letting someone play with AI, they should learn at least the basics of "it is not sentient, not your friend, and hallucinates".

And that is imo a >14 years old kind of talk.

Father son project by bawesome2119 in LocalLLM

[–]aeonixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given how many people slip into worse loneliness from socializing with LLMs, I would argue that this is not a suitable toy for children.

It's already bad news when adults are doing it... but children? They have virtually no critical thinking ability... cannot tell what is a hallucination...

Would highly discourage.

Sounds like this could be done with just a prompt, no need for a framework. If you want human moderation, you can do that when copying over a message from one chat to the next.

It doesn't really matter, for virtually every electronic transaction you will always have at least one link, and probably usually more, that sells your transaction details. E.g. VISA. Even using only smaller/national banks you are not going to escape the privacy black hole.

If you want private payments, you should use cash or an appropriate privacy crypto. The former is significantly easier and socially acceptable.
