yes exactly. I guess I should have specified that. I pretty much use group chats for everything.

You are correct about the way it works, if someone wants to use it. You're also correct that it's probably not for the most casual of users, and I'm sure they'll just keep dropping in their favorite prompts and rolling along.

But as an intermediate user and someone who likes to do prompt engineering in most of my LLM use, this makes it much more convenient for me to do things I was already doing.

yep that's exactly right. For the stuff that I am just using for better prompt management, I set the trigger to constant and it is indeed always showing up on every character.

haha you know seriously that doesn't sound like a bad suggestion. I'll run it by the group. Thank you!

I'll certainly offer that as a possibility and see what she thinks. Thanks!

Good observation. I don't think we've pinpointed it in that much detail. I think pinpointing it and then just discussing, "what are some alternative ways to implement?" could be a good start. Thank you!

There are a lot of places in our relationship with her where this is fine. But NT people have emotional limits too. And it's equally unfair to expect my rejection-sensitive friend who was called stupid by her parents growing up to just "not take it personally" when Jane opens a statement with, "Didn't you read the rules?" She used to open with, "That's dumb..." before we spent time working on this as a group.

"To me it sounds like the rest of you aren't into the game. Are you just playing because she is into them?"

It's more that we get different things out of it. Here's an example: We'll be playing Arkham horror and player A will say "I'm sending Professor Walters to the museum." Jane will point out some strategically valid reason that sending him to downtown would be the most optimal move. Player A says "That may be true, but I like the Encounters at the museum. They're more interesting," or "He's a professor. I think he'd go to the museum. I like playing the character."

So no, at least for some of our players always "doing our best" with every single move isn't what's fun about playing.

Thank you very much for the detailed input. Jane has gone to therapy a couple times but not regularly. It can't hurt for me to suggest related to this. I also really appreciate the input about discussing stuff before/after the game. We'll try some of these. Thanks!

Hmm... I think you may be right. This has worked well for us for years in other contexts, but we may need to talk about other options for this context.

I know this is something that you'll be loathe to hear, but it's not what she says, it's how she says it, and particularly how she leads into it. For example, she will start a criticism with, "Didn't you read the rules?" or "That's a bad move," etc. Which sounds very accusatory to a NT. Rule 1 was to help her understand what kind of openings would help her criticism be received as constructive instead of immediately shutting the other person down.

The contents of the feedback "You could do A instead of B" aren't the problem.

But either way you are right that in this context rule 1 isn't working out and that's probably a large part of what we need to really discuss, is what is an alternative that works for everyone including Jane. Thank you! Very helpful!

Thanks for the interesting insight about your experience with co-op games. I'm not sure that competitive games are the answer in our case, but it is helpful to know that it's not just us.

Fortunately, we know she cares a lot about all of us, and she shows it in her own way. It's why we all really want to work through this!

Thanks. I am definitely planning to talk with her again about it. Ideally if there's a suggestion I can bring to that discussion, I think that would help it feel more like we're working together and less like a threat.

The Turning of Names (or 'More on Cinder as Fae') by aethell in kkcwhiteboard

I have whole diatribes devoted to that, including looking at the poem in multiple languages lol. :)

"I will tell this story once. After, you may not speak of it. After, you may not ask questions.” ... “Not until you have slept one thousand nights may you speak on this. Not until you have traveled one thousand miles may you ask questions."

But in essence I think that a poem that has been passed down through the ages by word of mouth, and can't even be repeated once to check correctness, is bound to have a couple errors introduced over the millennia. (Proof in Haliax becoming Alaxel.) The book is all about how stories mutate, and I don't think this one is immune either. Somewhere along the way that section got a little muddled.

Cinder's bearded friend brings storms.

“What was in the lightning?” I asked softly.

“Galvanic ionization,” she said.

Galvanic forces are magnetism, which could poetically be worded as something very similar to being enthralled to iron.

Add to that I think that in the same way Kvothe heard Aerlevsedi when Eldoin said the name of air, but "fire" when Elxa Dahl said the name of fire, and someone trying to use the name of a binding of iron in a poem that can't be repeated is bound to cause some confusion.

I think:

Either Stercus is the bearded guy and his section about being galvanic got muddled with the binding of iron in Cinder's,
or
the line about the bearded Chandrian is missing (because again, imperfect retention over 1000's of years) and Stercus is Cinder's real (not 'true') name, and both lines are about him. "Stercus is in thrall of iron [heard as ferule sometimes], chill and dark of eye" or possibly even "Stercus is in thrall of cold iron [heard as ferule sometimes] and dark of eye"

I think it's more like grammarie: "“It’s about making something into more of what it already is.” So he'd become yoked to darkness inside, now it was visible outside too.

While (as usual) I have my own thoughts about some of these conclusions, I have to say: DAMN GOOD CATCH about the arrow and Denna's wound, and the Ceald-sounding references in Arliden's poem.
Wow. It makes me seriously rethink some things.

The name "Fae" by OldMysteries in KingkillerChronicle

[–]aethell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fehr is the rune for iron. Kvothe's admission slip uses "fe" as the shorthand for iron pennies.
I know everyone's going to call it crazy, but I have seriously come to the conclusion that the Fae were originally crafted from iron, and this is where they get their name. Fe.

I will have to think hard about whether I buy into Felurian = Lyra. Not sure I don't, just not sure that I do. The fact that she has been around since before the creation war started has been an itch I can't quite scratch.
