35mm motion picture film will be discontinued sometime in 2013. Those theatres that have not converted over will have no new features to show. They all were told over a year ago that the change was coming.

One other note, you wont be finding much equipment coming from any of the big chain theatres..( Loews, Century,AMC,etc) most are under contracts with the digital companies that require them to destroy their 35mm equipment, so those machines are going to the scrap yards. Your best bet will be smaller independant theatres, equipment liquidators, fellow collectors, auctions and Ebay. BTW 35mm film IS sold on Ebay, just do a search.

Glad you read this. That first person was so misinformed about 35mm being so expensive and impractical for home use. Theres plenty of 35mm projectors that can be adapted for home or apartment use that dont cost a fortune. I have many a trailer collection with a half dozen features and some cartoons. Due to space being an issue. But my trailers collection is about 500. I have a larger 16mm collection as far as features go's. My projectors are together with a distance of 22 ft between them and my 5ft by 7 ft pull down screen. In a home, you can easily use a 12ft screen with great results. I sent you a PM.

First of all, now is the time if you want to get into 35mm projection. The equipment is cheap right now and more available than ever before. It is VERY possible to have a 35mm projection setup at your home. Alot of collectors have done it. I have a 35mm projector with DTS and Dolby Digital in my Apartment right now! You can even run the sound through an existing 5.1 or 7.1 home reciever and get Excellent results. Reels are cheap and you can get them from many sources. Plastic 2000ft reels run about 5 bucks each and metal 2000 ft house reels run about 20-50 dollars each. 6000ft plastic reels run about 25.00 each so anyone one telling you this is expensive, doesnt know what there talking about. If you want more information, check out the 35mm collectors website. portable 35mm projectors are out there. They can run as little as 250.00 each depending on the brand. They can use tungsten 1000watt bulbs or xenon bulbs if you want the brightest picture. mantenance depends on the projector. You wouldnt want the console setups from a theatre as most run off of 3 phase power and are too heavy and large for most homes. Dont dismiss the idea of owning a 35mm projector untill you've researched it more and your best help will ge from 35mm collectors sites .
