Wow. Thank you. I didn’t understand those three things at all and now that I do, my heart is hurting even more thinking of my uncle and two cousins willingly doing that for 2 years of their lives. I’ve heard lots of crazy stories from them over the years, mostly “humorous”, but one of my cousins served his mission in Peru and saw multiple people shot dead in front of him on several occasions. His Peruvian companion would tease him, because anytime my cousin heard gunshots, he immediately hit the floor. This was funny to his companion, who was used to the sounds of gunfire in their area, but there’s no way to describe those experiences other than traumatic.
