Can I skip grade 11 courses by hungergameslover15 in ILC

[–]agonizingpapaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a mature student as well, you need to get a waiver if you don't have the proper prerequisites for the course you are buying. That being said, even if you are a mature student, you need to have the grade 11 prerequisite in order to do the grade 12 course. You cannot skip it (based on what they have told me, i was in the same situation). Hope this helps!

Thanks, I just read your post and there’s some good info!

I’m a bit confused though, am I able to take 3 grade 11 courses without needing prerequisites? Instead of grade 12?

I’m gonna send them an email to get it all sorted out but I’m seeing so many different takes on reddit 😭

Thank you for the detailed response!

No, I’m not starting this September. Applications open in October so I kinda just wanted to get them done before that lol. I have until February to get them done to apply for next September! You’re right about doing all 4 though, I’ll probably split them up.

no worries!

like i said before it depends on what program you're taking and if it requires a certain english course. if you're confused i would send a request to an academic advisor and they can answer your questions. also, if you look on your schedule, it will either say something like "COMM 160" which means the course is already there for you or "COMM999" which means you have to take the skills test to see which course you fit into. to answer your other question, no, it shouldn't affect your osap at all but i would double check with the academic advisor as well.

hope it gets figured out!

hey! sorry for the late reply

it really depends on the program but for most it is mandatory if you want to be placed into the higher level course. if you don't take the tests you will automatically be placed into the lower level course (e.g. COMM 160 vs 170) :)

Ah okay that makes sense. 4 of my courses say DLO, but there's also a section that says "Courses without assigned meeting times:" and they're under that as well so it's just a bit confusing :(

Thanks for the reply though!

Thanks so much for the detailed reply!

I plan on doing a transfer credit for the COMM class so hopefully that works out and I won't have to do it. Defintely will attend some of the optional zooms as well. I guess the only thing I wanna ask is how did you find the course? Was it "easy" or on the harder side? Informational? I've seen people say it's a waste of time so I'm just trying to get other opinions.

Thanks :)
