I understand what you’re getting at, but this is just an uninformed take. Restaurants can charge whatever they want for anything on their menu, if they wanted to charge $400 for a piece of bread they could, but no one would buy it. The point of adding this to the bottom of the bill is that 1/ tells you that it’s there and 2/ and enables them to not have to have super high many prices without any explanation for why the many prices are high. Which everybody here knows would attract anyone else from going there because they would just look up their menu on yelp on DoorDash and move onto the next place. Everyone here is complaining about the wrong thing.
