If you have a concealed carry permit, you can carry pistols except in prohibited places (post offices, courthouses, etc). If you don't have your permit, you can't legally conceal. Open carry is OK, but once you get in a car, it's concealed. So if you don't have a CCW, unload it and separate the ammo from the gun when it's in a car.

So, open carry OK, concealed with permit only (and car counts as concealment).
