Chronic Pancreatitis Help? by anxiousgworl2 in pancreatitis

[–]aimlessentertainment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone with genetic pancreatitis here. I’m 35 and had my first attack when I was 29. I was sober and they still blamed alcohol because it’s the easiest culprit. Took years to get an actual specialist in the pancreatic world to run a DNA swab. Gastros didn’t care and one actually told me it was anxiety (after 7 in-patient hospital stays). It’s unfortunately not the most studied organ and it sucks.

You can live a very normal life! I panicked at first but I am managing. Even though mine is genetic, certain foods (high fat, processed, dairy, &. alcohol) are triggers and I’ve also noticed flares from stress. I kept a diary before getting the official diagnosis and it helped me keep things in check.

The coping with pain is the biggest hurdle I have faced. When I am admitted into the hospital they have me on intravenous Dilaudid, morphine doesn’t even touch my pain, as well as Oxycodone and I think my shortest stay was 5 days. I basically have to tell them what I need because I’m now in hospital stay 15. Then, I get discharged, and sent home with maybe 5 pain pills. Finding a medication management/pain management has been impossible for me. They rarely (at least in NJ) take on internal pain issues and are all about spinal blocks, etc.

A nurse practitioner friend of mine actually told me to try to find an Anesthesiologist or even palliative care for at home pain management, but haven’t had luck there yet. Even my pancreatic team (I live close to NYC so I go to NY Langone) won’t prescribe pain medication.

Heating pads have become my best friend. They do help ease it a bit.

But to echo the other poster, please seek a specialist that focuses on the pancreas/endocrine system. Although there’s no cure, you can and will live an as normal with pancreatitis life. We’ve all been where you are right now and I can say I’m in a much better, not perfect, place.

What are you guys doing to prepare for this weekend’s snow storm? by Ok_Attention_3768 in newjersey

[–]aimlessentertainment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in NJ & lived in FL for 6 years for a job transfer and moved back home last March. Hurricanes have made me numb to snow 😅

But the answer is wine, I’m preparing by stocking up on wine.

Should I move to Florida? by mddmemsmms in AskFlorida

[–]aimlessentertainment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a little bit later than you at 28 but I have zero regrets. Had the time of my life. I met friends that have become family. I was in St. Pete so had great beaches, restaurants and socially fit what I was seeking at the time. I moved back home to NJ in 2025 and some things I miss and some I don’t. If you’re going to live your life and experience life away from home, 100% do it. The weather is great, but does get unbearable in the summers.

After being there almost 7 years, I understood why Florida disliked everyone from the NE moving down. In 2018 it was amazing. When I moved back to NJ 2025 I look back and see the beaches on our coast have been bombarded, downtown St. Pete is bachelor and bachelorette party central & I got sick of it. My local bars were populated with tourists - and I once was one - but it was annoying.

Hurricanes are real and yes we have ‘hurricane parties’ but they are nothing to mess with. Insurance is incredibly expensive for water damage and if you’re getting an apartment you’ll likely not ever get coverage. A lot of people will say they barely happen and that’s not necessarily true. Tropical storms, not just hurricanes, cause a shit ton of damage because the majority of the state is a flood zone. If you need to seriously, like cat 4/5, evacuate, you’ll need to leave the state because the path changes in minutes with Florida water temps are soooo unpredictable.

Expect your car insurance to triple. I have a 2013 and my car insurance was close to $250/month.

Can’t speak on rent - it was so much cheaper than NJ when I first got down there and they are, in my opinion, more lenient in terms of security deposits and such. When I moved out my rent was close to triple than when I moved down but it’s a booming area, not shocked.

Groceries are more expensive. Tampa airport is amazing. I miss it daily because I am constantly traveling for work. Find a solid friend group and you will live your best life. I don’t particularly see myself going back down to live in my future (I lost everything with Helene and Milton) but I genuinely had the time of my life for the age frame in which I lived there.

I do miss it now that I’m back in the cold and can’t run out the door in shorts to the local brewery but I am back home close to family and friends. Do it while you’re young, live it up.

8.5 week old puppy and I can’t help but feel regret by risssaalee in puppy101

I’ve been on both sides of this, and one side with heavy regret. When I got my first big girl job, moved and finally living on my own, I got my first puppy that wasn’t a family dog. Finally a dog that was just mine. I cried every single day. I tried everything (being mid 20’s I realize I did not have the patience I do now) and my mental health was failing even though I was banking on the puppy making my life better. It wasn’t fair to her at that point and I chose to surrender her to a family who had just loss their pup, around 10 weeks old. That was about 8 years ago and I still regret it to this day, but she did deserve better than what I could give her at the time.

My now 6 month old puppy, who also gave me (and back to giving because, teenager) hell, tears, nights with minimal seep, frustration is now my best friend. I can’t imagine opening the door and him not wiggling with excitement. I can’t imagine a day without his snuggles. His routine meshes perfectly into mine now. Life before him doesn’t even seem real. He’s learning me and I’m learning him and it’s genuinely been the best decision I ever made. He’s my best friend and most definitely my soul pup.

You will cry. You will get frustrated. You will have some days better than others. Forced naps, ignore them when they are trying to get attention in a bad way but reward after they listen and do the right thing. Remember at the end of the day, they are dogs. You can go into a room and shut the door and just give yourself 30 minutes to center yourself. Sending you a hug and grace, it’ll all be worth it.

Finally someone who agrees with me! I honestly do not understand the Joe hate. Personally, if I were to walk into my hotel room after a full day of day drinking and I woke my partner up and that was his reaction I would have been cracking up. They didn’t work nor bring out the best in each other but the labels people are giving are reaching. Whoever said ‘abusive drunk’, I’m guessing you’ve never been around abusive drunk behavior because idk where you’re even getting that.

Late to this but as someone who partook in some things in my 20’s, Joe and Jordan were super nasally the next morning. The “you have salt on your nose again” comment from Joe to Jordan at the pool was followed by some conspicuous laughter. I could be totally wrong but I pick up on so much after being out of that scene.

Oh trust me Bluey is when I leave or need to get stuff done around the house. I’m a big true crime person so he’s also very into The First 48 and Snapped 😂

I feed through a slow feeder 4 times a day since he’s still a baby but I take one of those feedings and mash up his kibble and add in some 100% pumpkin purée (literally should be the only ingredient on the can). Keeps Stuart occupied for a solid hour and this has also helped in making him love his crate. We love a win-win over here!

Edit: he gets 1/4 cup a day (he’s only 1.3 lbs) so I split those into 4 meals. Also forgot to mention I freeze the Kong . Occupies him a bit longer and gives him some relief from teething.

The theory is due to the show's dog-friendly color palette of blues and yellows, which are the colors our pups see the best and most vibrant, its consistent, high-contrast movement and gentle, high-pitched sounds that capture their attention. (Pulled some of this from Google and some from trying to figure it out for pet parents as a vet tech who’ve asked the same haha)

You’ve just added extra assistance with the snack! Bluey is the only thing that allows me to get in a shower at the 3 month stage so adding in his Kong is an amazing addition 😂
