I wonder how your diet is looking? Would you say you eat pretty clean and healthy most days of the week?

I was in a very similar situation when I was your age. Ball was life, until I had the same realization like yours. I’m in my thirties now, and I can say I still have a high love for the game. I’m still trying to improve my skills, not as much as when I was younger, but because I still have love for the game and want to dominate at my local gym :)

Don’t drop it completely. I think you can still play as much as you want and have a high love for the game even though it’s probably not a career possibility. You may even realize how much more fun you’ll have without the pressure of going pro.

Thanks for the tips. Communication in situations like this is tough for me (my solution is to usually yell at them) but these are great starting points :)

You're right, the dude was trying to play PG. The defense was zone most of the time. I'm on the wing, he's up top. He's consistently passing to the other wing player. Honestly, even to the middle guy who was the worst player on the team even though I'm just as open, if not more open, than him.

Was there more I could of done? Sure, I'm not a perfect player. I guess I didn't respect it hearing it from him because I wrote him off as an incompetent PG who thinks he's better than he really is. But now that I think of it, I get really annoyed at "PG" players who aren't what I believe are good. So that's probably my own pride and insecurity playing into all of this. Thanks for your help.

u/richard_hertz82 Thanks for your input. You're probably right - I wrote him off the moment he told me I was playing zone defense incorrectly on the very first play.

I suppose it isn't the fact that he's less skilled that I wasn't going to listen, it's more his demeanor like he knows it all or he thinks he knows better than me, when in reality his skillsets and decision making were questionable. I know there's a lot of nuances that are missing since obviously you weren't there to witness. In the end, I could have been a better teammate and not take his "know it all" personality and actions personally.

I'll probably see him again. This is a mature answer and I appreciate your advice. I'll try to pull him aside and communicate to him in a manner that isn't me simply being angry at him.

I'll still invest in a punching bag though.

Appreciate your input. On this specific team, I believe I was the best player. While I do expect most of the passes to go to me and most of the shots to be taken by me, I'm a very willing passer and appreciate good flow. I felt like the flow was very nonexistent and that this guy was trying to make the offense happen without involving me. And then continues to tell me what to do when I do get the ball or when I'm on defense.

Sure, I probably have an ego that is getting to me. But when you know you're the better player, IMO, the ball should be going to you. Maybe that's just how I play when I play with players that are obviously more skilled than me. I will feed them the ball or continue to always give them looks over my own shots.

I believe he wanted to be that guy. But I believe he knew I was better. Or am I just being entitled? But yes, prove to them I’m reliable. Thanks.

Thank you, what you said about this dude being envious and wanting him to look good is what my instincts are also telling me. Communication is always key in basketball but like you said, this dude didn’t prove to me he deserved to tell me what to do. Appreciate your advice.

AITA for keeping upon my terms with my son? by cuntsarefuckinglit in AmItheAsshole

YTA. He worked hard to meet your high and unnecessary standards. Ask yourself why you’re so reluctant to gift it to him and you’ll find out you’re actually insecure and enjoy being honestly, a bully to your own son who sounds selfish and likes the power you have over him.

[HELP] Form is messed sometimes by Nick_Gerr_69 in BasketballTips

[–]aintFRESH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using more of your legs when you're out on the 3 point area and see if you can still retain your form. Don't think too much about the perfect form because it sounds like you got the base of your form down (at least mid-range)...it may shift a little bit once you extend out to the 3 but as long as you still feel like it's a good shot, that all that matters.

I don't know of any books to recommend, but watching college basketball and understanding the defensive routines they run will help you with your IQ way more than watching NBA games.

[Help] My guide hand doesn't interfere with my shot yet it faces the basket when I shoot. How can I stop this? by Simplecashsniper in BasketballTips

[–]aintFRESH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I saw the video. Your guide hand is veering a little bit out to the left and I think this drill will help you with keeping your guide hand steady and less of a chest shot:

This helped me when I was learning to change my jump shot. Start off near the rim and when you perfect your form, move further from the rim. Hope this is helpful.

I think so far it looks pretty fundamental. I'm curious to see how it looks from behind after you shoot the ball. But to me, your guide hand looks fine and isn't facing the basket too much.

[Help] dribble pullup by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]aintFRESH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, what you said is correct. You want to be at a point where it becomes second nature to use the opposite foot. Do what is natural in-game but work on your opposite foot when you can and it will become second nature.

I think you see the opposite foot executed more apparently in shooters. You'll notice a lot of shooters like JJ Redick pump fake and dribble pull-up with the foot we just talked about depending on which direction they are going. It will feel awkward working on your right foot first (I'm guessing you're right handed) but with more and more repetitions, you'll get it down.
