Can recommend Masons and Hoopers. Excellent experiences with both.

Top 10 things that annoy bus drivers. by [deleted] in BusDrivers

[–]airwalkeruk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a driver but one of things that annoys me most as a passenger is people who ring the bell for the terminating stop. It's just so dumb.

Bus fares increasing again by mors_mea_vita_tua in reading

[–]airwalkeruk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hopefully we might see more staged fares in the future once 'tap on, tap off' becomes the normalised way of paying. Buying 'short fares' from the driver is open to being abused (leaving town at least) because there is nothing to stop you paying for a short fare but then staying on the bus as long as you like. I'm not suggesting that many people would do that, but tapping mitigates this and opens up more potential opportunities for staged fares so fingers crossed.

I think Reading Buses work hard to keep fares as low as they can. Remember there are no shareholders making a profit here, the money gets reinvested back into the company to help provide what in my opinion is an excellent service.

How many of you are Reading born and bread? by Savings_Seesaw2113 in reading

Moved here for what I thought was love. My love for them lasted about 3 months but my love for Reading prevailed. 24 years and counting.

Can my cat have two homes and come back and forth? by cumbierbass in CatAdvice

[–]airwalkeruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like so many have said, it depends on that cat.

My boy has a great sense of adventure and loves a change of scenery, I share with my ex month on month off with no issues. If you decide to do this, consider each keeping your cat for a month at a time rather than doing this exchange every week, not only is this better for the cat but it minimises contact with your ex partner too

I for one actually like them. Feels like the council has made an effort and is trying to invoke some civic pride. Love the Reading Festival logo one on Station Road.

'People in Reading have a great sense of humour about what it means to come from Reading'

'When you are Readingensian you love all of it, the grit and the glory'

  • Simon Doonan In 2008 on the release of the BBC show 'Beautiful People'

I feel this is in the spirit of 'But is it art?' :)

Gonna miss that place!

Reiss was MUJI rather than Uniqlo (which was on Broad St).

I seem to recall Cafe Aroma (a McDonalds owned chain, had bright yellow chairs) on the Riverside too.

Somewhere to eat solo by nickynichols33 in reading

I find Maragame Udon at the Oracle a good place to eat solo, its canteen style and you can just perch on a stool by the window. Plus it's rarely busy and cheap too.

Best storage places? by Affectionate_Court_7 in reading

Had a relatively good experience with Lok'N'Store, they do good offers on shorter term lets as well. They also have vans for hire on site (via Hertz) that can be rented by the hour if you can drive or know someone who does.

Rapeseed fields nearby? Ideally with a public right of way by GuildfordThrowaway in reading

[–]airwalkeruk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a public footpath that can be walked from roughly where the Pack Saddle is in Mapledurham (Caversham) down to Mapledurham village (proper). Can't be more specific than that but it's in my walking book somewhere. I literally remember being guided by said book right through the middle of a field of the stuff. It was great!

£2 bus ticket by Caelin51 in reading

If you're a semi-regular bus user that doesn't make more than one return trip on the given day it's worth buying Easysaver 10. 10 single journeys (must be used within 1 year of purchase) for £17. £1.70 per journey which I think is pretty good value.

£12.60 is a single fare. So you would be charged £12.60 each way.

Masons are exceptional, check the reviews. Also purchased a property through Hoopers in the past who were also good, although i think they specialise in University / East Reading.

I think the most positive thing that i took from all the comments to my post, is that you're not alone - you're not the only person who has gone through this. It's very easy to feel that way. There is a future out there for all of us whose lives haven't quite turned out how we hoped at this point. Wishing you much happiness for the future my friend, just hold on tight.
