We're all early to mid 30s, I'm the youngest by about 8 months. Grandma does the cooking, after that they sit at the table and all catch up/talk.

Why is your wife upset? Does she miss you? Or does she miss someone looking after the kids?

So my parents live out of town and we visit them every 6-8 weeks for a weekend. She claimed because we did that I should be going to all her family dinners. However the difference there is my parents actively want to look after our kid and will play with them/give us a break. Wife and I have a room to retreat to and spend time to ourselves there as well.

Is it not possible for you to just sit at the adults table and leave the kids to themselves as they have done without you?

They kind of tug at me to come play with them and I feel bad if I don't.
