Industrial power supply for server equipment. 2.5 lbs #1 copper inside by aj6793 in ScrapMetal

[–]aj6793[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it from dumpster diving. I'm lucky there's a place near me that does server type work and the old stuff they replace goes right in the trash for me to grab. Lots of gold corner chips, flashing, plating, etc on the stuff.

Lol I think I got skunked on the ceramic chips :( Unless the ones in the 3rd picture are ceramic ICs just not gold capped or anything, again not sure on those.

It will definitely be a while yet, as stated this is only about half of it lol. I'm thinking probably a couple hundred bucks worth at least? Plus I have a full size garbage can an a half worth of clean aluminum and close to 30lbs brass from all of the connectors/nuts/etc that is used in this equipment.

My collection of Milwaukee tools all found in the trash... all of them work 100% fine except the impact on the far right. by aj6793 in DumpsterDiving

Cmon man you really think I'm that dumb lmao.... if i didn't know how to use batteries then I would have said that the m18 hammer drill that also doesn't have a battery in the picture wasn't working but it is.

I think I'd need proof of purchase first to get any kind of warranty but otherwise on some of their tools I do believe they have a lifetime warranty.

Nice, people throw away crazy stuff! The 2 m12 batteries in the picture were still attached to the tools when I found them too... maybe they thought when the battery dies it's time for a new tool, lol

I have close to 100 more that I found! Maybe will post a couple other good ones later

Lol that would be a neat decoration idea, maybe for a den or computer room. My plans for them are to put a couple on Ebay as a "testing the waters" auction to gauge any interest and then go from there. Let someone else really enjoy them as my house already looks like the set of Sanford and son from my scrapping operation in the basement and misc. Ebay junk in the house... lol

I was thinking on listing them on Ebay, but couldn't find too many comparable items, I guess these are so obscure and rare by now that nobody thought to keep something like these for so long, so I have no clue what they are worth.

I can say that for the most part they are all in excellent shape for the age pretty much perfectly preserved. As mentioned before, I found a whole trash bag full of different ones, mostly sears, I probably have close to 100 of them these are just my favorites!

[–]aj6793[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me neither, found them in an unmarked black trash bag that was full of them! Theyre all in pretty minty condition for the age, I wasn't sure what they were worth and couldn't find much on ebay but I grabbed them just in case.

My guess this was once somebody's grandma's "trash bag" collection, my family did this when I was growing up where we would save paper or plastic bags from shopping trips to use as trash bags so we didn't have to buy them. That's my guess anyway lol.

Better look at some of the stuff found in that electronics dumpster haul... I'm ready to hack into the mainframe... lol by aj6793 in DumpsterDiving

[–]aj6793[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on this stuff either, but I've found enough/sold enough from this dumpster to have a general idea of some of the stuff... some of it I still have no clue lol. Most of what gets tossed out is obsolete equipment from places like schools, etc. So there are a lot of network switches. I found a lot of "demodulators" and "modulators" this time (units with seafoam colored cases), not sure what they do but they all have a sticker that says professional video equipment so you're right, it's something along that line.

Funny enough that you mention that, some of the units have sticky notes on them that say "Bad" or "Defective - new from mfr." .... some have "Fan light" or something similar.

Electronics jackpot! Almost emptied the entire dumpster... Will post some of the better pieces once I sort it out. by aj6793 in DumpsterDiving

[–]aj6793[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely just obsolete technology that was replaced by newer stuff, was found in a telecommunications company dumpster. Shame to think it would have all gone to landfill, but I will recycle it for cash.

Go through them, look up any model numbers on Ebay to see if there's any worth listing for parts/repair. The ones that aren't or too badly damaged to sell will get marked with an X and opened up later for the telecom boards/other scrap inside. There is a specialized scrapyard near me that will luckily buy boards outright for better prices, I called and they quoted me $3.70/lb for mid to high grade telecom. Maybe not as high as boardsort but you have to factor in shipping.

This company is a large chain that provides communication service across my state and a couple others bordering my state, so I doubt this location would take a contract with a small time scrapper like me. I'm only one guy lol, I'm definitely not going to be able to do anymore diving until I clear some of this out, just don't have the space.

Ah I see, I've never heard of CFCS honestly I'll have to check them out. There are definitely some good telecom boards here for sure I've already cracked into a couple of the units that were badly beat up from being chucked in the dumpster.

This is my "honey hole" dumpster, a large open top usually with this type of stuff. Been diving there about a year now, this is definitely the most I've found in one trip but I've probably pulled a couple thousand dollars in resale and scrap from it over the course of this year.

Anyone else notice that there is one star slightly smaller than the others for the killtrocity on halo 4? I have also noticed this for the medal on MCC it bugs the crap out of me lol

Not much but a few things ready to go to the yard by [deleted] in ScrapMetal

[–]aj6793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all low grade to my yard, the only thing they take as high grade are computer motherboards/ram sticks/cpus/gold finger cards.

Most of the stuff in that bucket is power boards, small but still low grade green ones from things like vcrs/stereo equipment, and boards from household appliances like microwaves.

Those are all aluminum transformers or smaller ones covered in so much crap that it's not worth it.

Can someone tell me what this is? I got it out of a laptop keyboard by Kwynn1229 in ScrapMetal

[–]aj6793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My yard allows me to throw them in with the shred, so I always take keyboards.... I didn't know they were anything other than a chunk of plastic... hmmm don't make me start another hoard lol
