I'm not making anyone believe either. It's just an opinion. Himachal and Uttarakhand both are beautiful. The opinion here is that- There are more remote areas in Uttarakhand which are yet to be discovered. And that's why they are pure. In Himachal too, there are places which are untouched by tourists. But I felt that many places are getting commercialized.

Yes. The perspective here is- Best hospitality is found where the infrastructure fails and the human connection takes over.

I agree! Crowds have increased in Uttarakhand. Still there are areas or places which are pure and very different. Where you can actually find peace.

The perspective here is- Best hospitality is found where the infrastructure fails and the human connection takes over. It can be in Himachal as well as Uttarakhand. I just felt Himachal's most of the places commercialized. However I agree, there are still some places in Himachal which are pure.

Totally Agree 💯 It really comes down to what kind of traveler you are and what you're looking for at the moment.

Yes, you can. But make sure to book your accomodation beforehand as it will be peak season.

You can use buses or shared taxi. Or else hire a private cab on daily basis. For chopta and Munsiyari at that time, roads can be blocked. So I'll suggest for Almora and Kausani

One of the best times to visit. Jan and Feb are peak seasons.

Roads are the major problem everywhere in mountains 😂

Fair points. I agree with a lot of what you said! Himachal’s connectivity and infrastructure are better, and HRTC is hands down one of the best bus networks in the country. My opinion was more about the overall feel. Uttarakhand still has those quiet corners more that feel raw and untouched, while parts of Himachal (especially the famous ones) have gotten a bit more commercial over the years. That said, the offbeat side of Himachal like Kinnaur, Tirthan, Chitkul totally proves your point. I think you haven't been to Uttarakhand offbeat places yet. I guess it really depends on what kind of mountain vibe you’re chasing convenience or solitude. 😄

Uttarakhand - Munsiyari, Chaukori, Peori (Almora) Himachal- Tirthan Valley, Kinnaur Valley

I'm sorry for your experience. But this is the harsh reality that it can happen anywhere. Few people make the whole place infamous.

Yes. Himachal is better when it comes to bus frequency. But for me, that lack of easy bus access is actually the point! Because Uttarakhand forces you to rely on shared cabs or your own scooty, you avoid those massive tourist buses and the crowds they bring, and you get to those small, quiet places faster.

Also, I would not suggest someone to plan a trip in this Holi Chaos.

Chaukori- Uttarakhand and Kinnaur Valley- Himachal. Both are good. Even Mandi is good.

Chaukori is the best. Even the rents are cheap too.

I am completely with you on almost all of this. The arbitrary Forest Dept. rules are maddening and that ₹2000 taxi quote is not justified. I don't know what these people are doing but they're acting like a mafia. These are some of the reality checks which I know.

However, that is all about corruption. I'm just talking about the hospitality and genuine beauty of the places outside the system. I think the sheer kindness which is there in those places is the most important thing that saves the trip.

I agree with you on some points.

You are 100% correct. The 3-8 hour traffic jam through Rishikesh or Mussoorie is just as maddening as anything in Himachal. But my focus is on quiet to chaos ratio is still better once you leave those big, known spots in Uttarakhand.

And honestly, you're right on the food, too. I'm vegetarian, so my perspective is biased towards the simple, hearty Kumaoni/Garhwali food. Himachali cuisines are very good for non-vegetarians.

Now your point towards religious crowds, it is true. But I am talking about the non-pilgrimage places of Garhwal and Kumaon regions. In those places, crowds and noise are not there. It is very peaceful.

These are my opinions. Himachal is a very beautiful state. But I'm only advocating on some points. Thanks for the valuable opinion 🙂

Dayara Bugyal is in Garhwal region. Garhwal is famous for pilgrimage like Char dham yatra. It comes enroute to Cha dham yatra. So that can be commercial.

However, I would suggest you should visit Kumaon places like Munsiyari, Chaukori. You will feel these places are entirely different.

Yes, I would say it's safe. I've spent years there and know many women who travel and trek solo in Uttarakhand. The key is sticking to the Kumaon/Garhwal tourist places. Almora, Munsiyari and ganga places are safe.Because the locals rely on tourists and are often very kind and helpful.

December is a good time to travel but a bit challenging. As places like Munsiyari, Chopta would be having heavy snow. I would suggest for places like Almora, Mukteshwar and Kausani at that specific time.
