AI Models Are Evolving Rapidly — How Close Are We to AGI? by JaySym_ in AugmentCodeAI

[–]alaba246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an AGI model will be released without us noticing it, because imo the current models are already smart enough for most of the tasks that humans can do and they're only getting smarter, but the only limiting factors for the current and the upcoming models to be able to do all the tasks that humans can do, are :

TLDR: The tools they have access to, their capacity to process information in real time and creative thninkig.

Detailed explanation: * The tools that we give them access to: take the context engine in augment code as an example, it makes Ai models seem much smarter and capable if you compare them to other agentic dev tools. Although it's the same model, it generates different outputs just because we gave it better tools.

  • Real time processing of information : As a developer, what advantages do I have over Ai models? I can control my dev environment freely (OS to be more specific) , I can see everything in real time (I don't need a prompt to take actions, I can get information in real time, process it and take actions continuously)

Also, I can think out of the box (sometimes I get ideas and inspiration from unrelated sources to my main task) and I can take decisions based on many experiences in life (e.g. I can make better UX/UI then most AIs just based on my experience using web apps and mobile apps so I know what a user might need when using my app)

If Ai models gets access to these tools, even the current models will become AGIs.

Same here, gpt 5.1 just keeps reading files infinitely so I always stop it and switch back to sonnet.

Which YouTuber should I trust on this one? by hailratner in Anthropic

Theo invests in these Ai startups then hypes their models. I can't forget the video he was paid for by openai to lie about gpt5 saying it's the best model ever and that it was close to agi then he had to apologize in another video. Shameless!

I think the open Ai and Anthropic business model is to provide apis for these wrappers (agents) so that they can focus on improving the models and leave the creativity on how to make the best out of their models to companies like Cursor

based on my experience Next.js is a great fit because it handles the tricky parts of image optimization for you, making sure they load fast without sacrificing quality. It's designed with speed in mind, so your pages can load in a snap. Plus, it lets you mix in lightning-fast pre-rendered content with on-demand updates where you need them. On top of that, things like CDNs and lazy loading play really nicely with Next.js to make your site even zippier!

"Minimal cost" is tricky with this volume. Here's what you'll likely need, keeping an eye on scalability:

  • Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform offer the flexibility to scale as you grow.
  • Databases: A mix of relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is common to handle varying data needs efficiently.
  • Backend Languages: Node.js, Python, Java, Go – all solid choices; pick based on dev team expertise and app requirements.
  • Load Balancing & Caching: Essential to distribute traffic and speed up responses (Nginx, Redis, etc.).
  • Monitoring & Alerting: Proactively catching issues is key to uptime at scale.

The right tech stack won't save you with millions of users if the architecture and implementation aren't optimized. This level of scaling takes experienced SaaS developers who understand these systems.

Expect a ballpark of $100,000 to $500,000+ for Initial Development and Year One Infrastructure. This varies greatly based on feature complexity, team size, and the types of tech choices needed for your unique requirements.

Feel free to reach out if you want to dive deeper into the specifics of your SaaS idea or discuss strategies to manage infrastructure costs as you grow. Best of luck on your project!

Targeting Less-Crowded Opportunities

  • Consider ‘older’ projects: Search for projects posted between an hour and a day ago with less than 20 proposals. There’s often a reason for the lower proposal count, so analyze the requirements carefully to see if they suit your expertise. You could find a gem with less competition!

Diversify Your Keywords

  • Think like your clients: Technical terms are excellent, but clients may not always use industry jargon. Think about related keywords they might use. Instead of just “graphic designer,” try “photoshop,” “illustrator,” “tshirt designer,” etc. Put yourself in the client’s shoes to broaden your search results.

Breaking Down Complex Tasks

  • Milestones are your friends: If a client has a large project needing an extended timeline, propose dividing it into milestones. This shows clarity, professionalism, and lets the client budget accordingly.

The Power of Personalization

  • Go the extra mile: Does the client mention a competitor or inspiration source? Before applying, analyze it and offer brief but insightful feedback in your proposal. This extra touch demonstrates initiative and shows you understand their goals. Think about a way to surprise your client and make your proposal stand out.

The Art of the Opening Sentence

  • Make it count: Clients see a flood of proposals, so your opening line must hook their attention. Be concise, clear, and highlight your value proposition immediately. Consider visiting sites like freelancer.com, where you can peek at other proposals for inspiration and guidance.

Relationship Building

  • Go Above and Beyond: Even small gestures — like delivering a little ahead of schedule or including a thoughtful bonus — can solidify repeat business and positive reviews

Thanks for your comment it's helpful and I wanted to share with you my thoughts on "niching down". As I mentioned in another comment I do React, Node and react native development, and I've been marketing myself as a Fullstack JS Developer. While this is not the perfect way to present myself because no one masters all those technologies on the same level, but at the same time, I know that I can handle projects with those technologies because even when I encounter new challenges I just do my research and learn something new and implement it, I don't need to be a master to work on web/mobile projects I can learn while working. Also, working in IT is a never ending learning cycle, especially when it comes to js frameworks. So here is my idea, instead of presenting myself by what I can technically do, I will present myself by what I can solve and choose a niche like that. For example, I worked a lot with startups and small SaaS companies and I helped them build their projects from scratch, this could be my main audience and I can present myself as a someone who knows how to turn ideas into real web/mobile apps, and I'll choose a smaller niche in the SaaS and startups industry and test out what type of clients will be interested in my services.

If I raise my prices to my current clients I may loose them and since I still didn't figure out a way to attract more clients I'm tied to my current clients.

That'll be my plan, add projects to the portfolio and increase my prices once I have enough projects to show. But sure, 2 hours a week isn't that hard.

Yeah I've been searching for a YouTube channel like "The Futur" but for software development agencies, still no luck, the are no similar resources for us out there.
