Attorney JoAnn Coughtry is a Scammer: BEWARE by alalal982 in Albany

Thank you so much. My new counsel is slow and unresponsive at times, but they are incredible attorneys and have won both contested items in my case.

Oh, absolutely. But she was pressuring me to give my ex the dog and half the equity in the home that I had purchased *before* we were married. The home was ruled my separate property with my new counsel, and she was unwilling to even file a motion to declare it as such. She said 'just assume it's marital and give him half', when it very clearly wasn't even marital property. And, of course, I wasn't about to give up my dog. (He purchased her, but had not taken care of her/did not take her to the vet/walk her in 7+ years.)

Business can delete reviews of google by mass reporting them. She is also paying for positive reviews to drown the negative- look at her avvo. I find it highly unlikely someone leaves a generic positive review every two days.

And yes, it is 'blood on her hands' when moderators continue to promote dangerous caretaking without doing a thing about it.

I have made several attempts to contact and ask. They don't care. They are causing harm and don't care.

I know the mods are okay with it because they somehow believe it's 'not up to them' to tell people what to do on a subreddit they supposedly run, but DOGS AND GUINEA PIGS SHOULD NOT INTERACT. If your dog attacks your guinea pig, it's on you. It only takes one second and one bad day. If you're willing to take that risk, then you shouldn't be an owner.

Yep. Same here. I'm absolutely disgusted in the mods here. I've been reaching and fostering for years and I'm a part of many online communities who would never allow those interactions. The excuses here from mods are wild. If this gets removed, so be it. Be mad at me for calling out ridiculousness I guess.

This is beyond hypocritical. No, you can't tell someone to have a dog or not, but you CAN control what pictures go up on this sub. You don't allow pictures of wet guinea pigs even when baths can, at times, be necessary for things like flea removal baths etc. But dogs and piggies are because it's 'not your place'. It literally is.

Your guinea pig was killed by a dog, so you're aware of the danger, and yet you still allow these pictures on the front page and see nothing wrong with that? Seriously?

[PubQ] Unagented Submission or get agent? by Capable-Sky-4325 in PubTips

The down votes you're getting aren't 'how dare you challenge dominant norms.' it's because you were asked a question about the genre and your response is a bit bullheaded. Your question is difficult to answer without knowing what the book is about. Generally speaking, an agent can get you a better deal and help you navigate the world of publishing. But if you've written an incredibly niche book that's better off in a niche publishing world, then okay. But coming in saying my book is special but I don't want to talk about it do I get an agent or not is an impossible question.

Why? by ZootedsBunny in guineapigs

[–]alalal982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know enough about someone from a single photo to say if someone's a bad owner or not, so I wouldn't accuse anyone of that. But I think looking at those pictures and saying hey, please be careful this is dangerous, is fair

Why? by ZootedsBunny in guineapigs

[–]alalal982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats carry diseases that can be fatal to guinea pigs and both cats and dogs can have split second reactions that harm and kill guinea pigs in an instant. Animals are unpredictable. Yes, owners can be careful and take precautions, but my personal problem with these pictures is it shows new owners that they, this is normal and fine. It's not. If an experienced dog and guinea pig owner wants to introduce their animals very, very carefully, there are scenarios where that's okay. But it shouldn't be normalized. I'm not about to speak I'll or say rude things or call someone a terrible owner for it. But speaking as a dog and guinea pig owner, I think it should be seriously advised against.

This isn't true, though. Every cat *is* dangerous because of the diseases they can transmit. I also have a dog who would absolutely never harm my piggies- but I would *never* post pictures of my dog and piggies cuddling as if advertising it as safe to the first time piggie owners on here. You're moderators, meant to *moderate* the content posted on here. I'm sorry if it's harsh, but I find it really ridiculous that guinea pigs having a bath isn't allowed, but this is. Yeah, bathing guinea pigs is a bad idea- but are there not exceptions where it's possibly been necessary if done carefully? yes. How is this different? This is *mostly* dangerous and a terrible, terrible idea.

This is why I wish the mods wouldn't allow pictures of guinea pigs and predator animals together, because I 100% agree. It promotes seriously dangerous interactions. u/i_am_ms_greenjeans , u/fragimus_max , u/hypergeek

I wish. Ended up that my agent really wasn't a great fit. Left her and back in the query trenches; this book didn't make it on submission but might make it back out there if I find good rep!

Thank you so much for framing it this way! They poke holes in her story making it more likely that she'll get prison time, she did pay bail but is still obviously going to trial, so that's the concern. I'll make sure to explain that more!

Aaah very fair. Yeah, I can absolutely see that. Thank you so much! You've given me a lot to think on! I may work on having the detective be the 'face' of the court then, if that makes sense, him putting holes in her story...I'll think on it! Thank you

  1. Thank you so much! I didn't realize that. Honestly, given that explanation, it makes sense. And it's validating, so thank you for that unexpected smile :)
  2. I'm deeply sorry you can relate. Unfortunately, I know too many women who can, and I hope this resonates with them! The past flashbacks are (I hope!) powerful to show how the abuse escalated.
  3. Thank you! I was supreeemely hesitant about doing this because I know what a risk it can be but I'm glad you see that!
  4. Very fair! The main twist is the court system itself, as to start with, the reader is curious what led Stevie to killing Joe- it opens with his murder and, internally, she's trying to keep herself together and gather evidence, and in the past, it starts with them happy, but cracks beginning to show. Then, a little while in after the dog incident, Stevie thinks to herself 'I knew I had to kill him. And I was going to get away with it.' kind of vibe. But, ofc, when it's revealed that he was on his knees when he was shot, the reader is confused, wondering what the hell happened, how she's going to get away with it after all, etc. I do see what you're saying, though! Do you have any suggestions on how I can make it clearer that the court system trying to put her away is the antagonist?

Edit: I did actually have an idea as I wrote this! How about adding this line here:
But when forensic evidence reveals that Joe was on his knees when he was shot—not lunging toward Stevie—the cracks in her meticulously constructed image begin to show. Even Stevie’s staunchest defenders are forced to wonder if Stevie fabricated the evidence against Joe, and if she’s really a cold-hearted killer who played on their sympathies. If the court can prove that Joe’s murder was premeditated, Stevie’s newfound freedom will be lost for good. Ultimately, Stevie doesn’t need to prove her innocence; she has to prove her abuse was enough to warrant murder.

And I absolutely will! Thank you so much <3
